having problems charging and getting my computer to recognize t
I got my nook for christmas, and right away its been flaky on charging, sometimes it will and sometimes it won't. If it doesn't charge I usually wait a few minutes then plug back in and it will usually go. I tried to take it back to best buy and of course when the geek squad guy plugged it in, it work right away. so they wouldn't swap it out for me. Well today I'm trying to plug into my computer and nothing. I've tried powering off the nook, and the computer several times and nothing... it will not show usb mode. i plug other things into the usb ports and they work fine, so its not my computer. I'm getting upset.. I love my Nook other then this problem.

Doesn't sound good.........
Luckily you bought it at best buy.......I'd take it back now.....and do some extra gripping, ask for the manager.......intermittant problems are the worst....accept nothing less than a replacement.... Good luck |

Someone else had the same problem on a Windows machine. They tried it on another computer and it worked. Do you have another computer to try? Maybe that's why when Best Buy tried it worked.
But it sounds like when you plug it into the wall it's the same problem. If so, call B&N and ask them to send you a replacement charger. |

It might be a driver issue, perhaps a conflict between two different devices. I have yet to this day to get my Sony 950 to work with my Windows 7 desktop although my 350 works fine. The 950 does work with my Windows XP netbook.
Concerning the nookcolor, I notice that I have to sometimes jiggle (very cautiously) the micro-USB cable before the light comes on to show it is charging. Remember that you have to use the supplied cable with the extra long micro-USB plug before the unit will show it is charging. It will trickle charge with a standard micro-USB and connect to a computer with a standard micro-USB cable , but won't indicate that it is charging. Try a different cable with the computer. Also try using a different USB port on your computer. I would not use a USB hub as they are finicky. Try a different computer if you have one. Last edited by jswinden; 01-23-2011 at 12:10 PM. |

I had the same problem with my first unit. The USB to computer connection was intermittent, it was recognized about 30 percent of the time. There also seemed to be a fitment problem between the cable & socket which required a bit of wiggling and forcing to make the connection. I experimented using my seemingly identical harmony remote USB cable, and it connected to the PC every time. This assured me it was a problem with the unit. I took mine back to best buy and they swapped it without a question.

Just got back from Best Buy they swapped it for a new one. I'm very happy with that.

The B&N store here just had a tutorial class on the NC. They reported known problems with some PWR/USB cords. Let them check it with a cord known to be good.
I'm fortunate, the staff at the B&N local to me is quite knowledgeable and interested in sharing their knowledge. |
