Hello from Brisbane

Hi, I have just purchased a Sony PRS-650 and my Partner has a shiny new Kindle 3. We bought two different devices so we could compare over time - figuring that these would not be the only ebook readers we will buy.

I am very interested in figuring out how to use Calibre to maintain our book libraries. I am hoping that we can maintain a common book collection on our Ubuntu server at home (like we do our music and photos) then use it to update our respective readers.

I am starting this journey in the MobileRead Calibre thread so if there are any best practices you can point me to that would be great.

I'm surprised you bought different readers, it's going to be very hard to share books (not without some drm stripping) since one reads ePub and the other mobi/azw

Actually I bought the second reader AFTER I figured out how to strip the DRM using the Calibre Plug-ins from Apprentice Alf. The big questions are touch screen or not, is 3G access required or not, and how do we feel about Amazon having so much control over our reader. Time will tell - still waiting for the Sony.

Good to have your company, Cindy. A smart move to get such different devices rather than opting for the same as many couples do. Hope you managed to keep them dry during the terrible flooding in your neck of the woods -- mind you, zipper jiffy bags even allow you to read and oprate those devices in the bath. Best wishes. Neil

Neil, We had a laugh at thinking about reading our ereaders in the bath. You must have an extremely relaxed relationship with your technology to take it into hazardous environments.

Luckily we are on the top of a hill so no flood waters made it up to us. It is extremely heartbreaking to see how people's lives that have been affected by the floods. I'm thinking now how I can get some of my paper books in the hands of someone who might of lost all of theirs. Cindy
