iPad vs. Kindle
I am a big Kindle fan. Not so much for iPad. Although I do own an iPad and it is OK for many things. I thought it wasn't that great for reading because the back lit LCD tends to burn my eyes after a while. Although I did run across a free app in the App store that makes reading on the iPad much better. It's called Stanza and works wirelessly with Calibre. There are many more function settings in Stanza that make it so user friendly, like screen brightness by swipping the screen up or down, and many different page back grounds. Actually I learned about it here in the Forum but it was in an answer to another question. I just thought that you iPad fans who love Kindle too might be interested.

i don't like the ipad. for one, i do not enjoy using a touch screen device. I especially hate using a touch-screen keyboard. I had an itouch for a while and got rid of it in lieu of a blackberry 8030.
Another point id like to make is the fact that i would have no use for a tablet PC. I have a laptop and I have a Kindle (which has free 3g internet) there is no way I would pay for 3G internet on the apple $14.99 250mb data per month (lawl) or $25 2gb data per month... Kindle is free unlimited data per month. Sure you can't watch videos on it. But I can wait till i get home or to my hotel or where ever I am going to plug my laptop in and If I wanted to have 3G for my laptop on the go I could always pay for my cell phone to have internet and use that as my service. ( i wouldn't pay for that either). So my answer would be Kindle. |

I also have an iPad and nobody can convince me that it is a "reader". Kindle all the way!

Yet another thread on the iPad vs. Kindle, eh?
I have both, I like both, I read on both. The LCD screen doesn’t bother me a bit, I can read on it for hours. I prefer the Kindle for the 6" screen. The iPad is just too big for my comfort, it's like reading a book the size of a magazine: I'd rather not. |

The kindle is a great device and I see it continuing for some time, but I use my iPad for all my reading. I read hours on the screen with no eye strain, and I find the size is just fine. It's smaller and lighter than the typical hardback. I really like having access to all the ebook formats and stores via 5 or 6 reading apps. If I had a laptop and a Kindle, I wouldn't buy an iPad, but I have neither and it replaces them both.

There's no comparison, really. Because they are two radically different devices. One is an ereader... period. And the other is a multi-app/multi-function tablet computer that happens to have apps available for reading ebooks.
I don't have an iPad (I'd get one in a heart-beat if I could afford one). But the Kindle would still be my main reading device... because my old eyes just wouldn't be able to survive the 3+ hours a day beating they would take reading on the iPad's backlit LCD screen. But I could sure come up with a lot of other uses for it. ![]() |

like its been said before, the ipad is just an over-sized itouch. i don't see any difference between the two except screen size. and it is way too expensive. you could buy a decent laptop for the price of an ipad.
i would like to hear a good reason for using an ipad. i haven't heard any yet. |

I could crush ice with an iPad (and possibly enjoy it), but that don't make it a blender. |

If you're referring to a decision between Kindle & iPad, it ultimately depends on your goals, but I generally recommend people avoid Apple products. If you're looking for a general purpose tablet, the GalaxyTab is getting good reviews, and the NookColor can be rooted down to an Android tablet (on which you can run Kindle software!). If you want to read a lot on the device, get a Kindle. |

if it is a book i would read it on my kindle. if it was a technical manual or something similar i would just read the part i needed off my laptop. or if i am not at the house i would bring it up on the kindle. I would not be lugging around anything the size of an ipad or kindle dx.
