Softkeys?? and another issue

I'm a newbie and not too much of a techie so please be gentle.

I just rooted my NC and so far it seems fine. I used autonooter 3.0. However, I have two issues.

I'm not sure what "Softkeys" is. I touched it in the extras section but hit "deny" since I wasn't sure what this is then I get a little back arrow in the middle of the screen. Can someone explain?

Second, though I have access to the Android Market, nothing seems to be downloading. How can I correct this?
