The Kindle has re-sparked my interest in reading
Hey there everyone!
I used to read a lot, but that tapered off and eventually stopped over the past 10-or-so years. I've been thinking I should pick up a book or two again, but I didn't know what to look for or what was out there, and I just never made it to the book store or library. Then I was gifted a Kindle for Christmas, and it's re-sparked my interest in reading. I'm re-reading the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and I have a to-read list that's already 13 books long (visit my GoodReads profile if you want to see what I'm up to). I'm also getting into learning about the technology - I love to learn how things work. I've been poking around with creating eBooks using Sigil and converting/managing them with Calibre. I immediately installed the screensaver hack to my Kindle as soon as I saw it. And I'm absorbing as much of the "how it works" kind of detail from this forum as I can. The Kindle is a largely closed piece of hardware, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to learn about it. I am a huge proponent of removing DRM, for personal use, from books you've purchased. People who pirate ebooks will never have their copy deleted remotely, will never be told they aren't authorized to read it, and can convert and transfer the files to any new device they care to read on. Why should you, as a paying customer, get an inferior product? As for what I like to read, I'm a fan of Sci-Fi and Fantasy, and generally prefer fiction over non-fiction. I like the occasional thriller as a change of pace. But like I said, I haven't read much in a long time, so I'm going to explore a few genres and see what sticks. I'm also going after some of the classics, or at least what I consider classics -- those stories that everyone knows, or at least knows of. My first was Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and I feel good that now I actually know the story! And in case my avatar doesn't make it obvious, yup, I'm a Furry. Doesn't really matter as far as reading is concerned, except that it'll show in some of the things on my reading list. It's come to be how I present myself online, though, so there you go. |

Welcome! I always loved reading but what the Kindle did for me was allowed me to revisit some of the freebie classics that bored me rigid at school, and helped cultivate a renewed interest in them.
And whatever a Furry is - it got blocked at work...........so sounds exciting! |

At its simplest explanation, Furries like media (books, cartoons, movies, whatever) with anthropomorphic animals (animals with human traits). So, like, Fantastic Mister Fox? Pure gold. |

Haha, yeah...that was so sensationalized and inaccurate. I could rant, but I won't, this isn't the right forum for it. Let's just say that if you come to a furry convention, it'll be nothing like that.
