Random dischargement and recharging via USB

I found my PRS-600 discharged on the train this morning. I got a mini-USB cable and am recharging with my laptop (having no other way of recharging it while I'm out), but in the meanwhile I'm thinking about how often this random discharge business has been happening to me lately.
I leave home, my PRS-600 has 2 or even 3 bars on it. I get where I'm going, it has none.
I may be wrong (not keeping an eye on the power meter?) but this is getting to be a real pain. And given how bad USB charging has proven, it looks like I'll be forced this evening to open it up and perform the "disconnect the battery" routine, yet again.
Anyone else in the same boat?

I've had this happen myself; I think the problem is that something is pressing down on the touch screen or buttons. Even if the reader is turned off, I think it still drains the batteries if the buttons or screen are pressed.

I have a cover for the Reader however it might be time to get a more solid one?
Will a 650 cover fit a 600? Anyone tried it?

Make sure your laptop doesn't go to sleep with Reader connected - that will discharge it rather than charge.

Unfortunately, even a hard cover won't prevent the cover squeezing down and pressing the buttons. I've learned to just not keep my 600 in my bag.

Unfortunately no--the 650 is a little smaller than the 600, so the 650 covers won't fit the 600.
