Jetbook Lite vs Hacked Pandigital Novel
Okay, I've had my Jetbook Lite for a couple of months now and love it. But the grass is always greener and I really wanted a PD Novel. Santa brought me one and I've had time to play with it some. I've hacked it so I can do most anything you want with it. It's a great little toy but for book reading it just does not hold a candle to my Jetbook Lite. I had planned on selling my JBL after getting the PDN but after review, No Way. Here's what I like about the JBL better than the PDN (and by the way I have all the Book Readers on the PDN - Aldiko, Amazon, Pandigital's B&N variant, Cool Reader, Moon Reader, and maybe another one or two.
I like JBL better because: Reading is not as hard on the eyes. The size is perfect for throwing in you pocket and traveling. No charger to keep up with. Way more operating hours without a charge. Simple to use. The weight. (I bet the PDN ways 5 times what the JBL weighs). Can easily operate the JBL one-handed. What I do like about the PDN: Backlight is nice for dim lighting or night reading. Internet access, games, music, movies - anything but reading. Looks cool. Wi-fi access. My main point is that, in my opinion, if reading books is your goal, you cannot go wrong with the JBL. At $85 bucks with case and lite, I am very tempted to buy another just for back-up. By the way, thanks to all you JBL guys and gals on this site that convinced me that this was a good device for me and helped me through the FW update and getting the books the way I wanted. This is a great site with some awfully nice people hanging around. Teleguy ![]() |

Having a backup JBL is not a bad idea. There is this mysterious lock-up that some have
encountered, not with any of mine but you never know. Ectaco has been pretty good about the one year warranty, but my year is about up, so the $85 could be like an extended warranty with an extra JBL thrown in. The 7" Multimedia Color Pandigital looks like it represents that class of devices pretty well, so your experience is good intell. MobileRead Forums has been an exceptionally well run site and has had some of the more rational, polite, and informed contributors on the internet. While I'm kinda partial to this particular jetbook forum, you might check out the others here, there could be one for the Pandigital. Luck; Ken |

Currently I'm using the Libre Pro for book reading, the PDN for comic reading, and the iPad for magazine reading. (The digital scans of the classic "Famous Monsters of Filmland" look great on the iPad) |

I wonder if the introduction of the Tablet version of Android (3.0 I think) will make a big
difference for these devices? There could come a time when a "hacked" version of the current devices become a cheap alternative to a crop of new devices. Or are there weakness that can't be overcome by new firmware/OS, like the weak WiFi ? Luck; Ken P.S.; The Libre Pro is a sister to the jetBook, it is more of a cousin to the JBL. I still do most of my day time reading with my JB and night time reading with my PocketBook IQ.
I wish the JB has backlight (I still remember the days of night reading on the Palm Pilot with backlight) Cheers |

Welcome Teleguy!
Newegg has the JBL five dollars cheaper than that right now. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't change a thing except that I would buy an extended warranty. |
