PRS-350 Please help!

I got a Sony reader for Christmas and am still trying to get it all set up. I have downloaded books from multiple sources and I had read about Calibre so I use that to convert everything and then send them to the reader library. However, some book covers are not showing up even though I have added them through Calibre. Does anyone know how I can fix this? I am a bit ocd and it is going to drive me crazy if I don't have all the covers there. Thanks so much!

Me, too, RAH02! You have to convert the Epub (from Epub!), not just "add" the cover so it shows up at Calibre. PDF books present a different challenge, which is kind of complicated to explain.

Did you add the covers before you converted the books, or after? Did you try adding them using the "Change metadata" button? Try it, if you haven't, it might work.

With the touchscreen devices, you need to convert the file (from Epub to Epub) to get the cover to come through after transfer; that it appears with the Calibre listing after a metadata addition isn't enough.

Thank you all so much! I have converted them first and then added the covers, should I have done that the other way? And SeaBookGuy...are you saying even if it is already an epub I still need to convert it for the cover it up?

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying - it may seem odd, but you need to do a conversion from Epub to Epub, after adding the cover via metadata, to get the image to be recognized on your reader.

To be absolutely sure to get the new cover into the epub as page 1 you need to do a Calibre epub to epub conversion. However, Calibre can update the cover of some epubs just by re-sending. There's a better chance of this happening with a Calibre-created epub. If you do have to reconvert, be careful as Calibre will overwrite the old epub with the new, so you might want to take a copy of the old epub before conversion - just in case.

Something else you might like to know is that as of Calibre v7.38, there is an option to update the cover thumbnail of the books on your Sony PRS350/650 to match the one you keep in Calibre (which may be different to the one inside the book). This should be helpful for DRM'd books which you can't convert. It should also work for books in a format which doesn't have a cover e.g. TXT.

The book thumbnail seems to get updated when you re-send the book to the reader (not each time you connect, as I originally thought), but you don't need to re-convert.

[Edit: Since posting originally, I've had a chance to try this and have edited accordingly.

I have no troubles with covers displaying if I do it like this:

a) Transfer new book to reader with Calibre.
b) Unplug and let the Sony refresh the cover.
c) Retransfer book to reader with Calibre.

Sony seems to want to make its own thumbnail cache with each new book on step (b), but Calibre fixes it on step (c). Works every time.
