Sony software is finally good for something

I likely wouldn't have found this place if I hadn't been having an awful time syncing my new reader. So thanks for that, Sony.

The PRS-650 hardware itself is quite nice I think -- it's just the software (on a Mac) that makes me want to kill something. I ended up using Calibre to add books to my reader. The Sony software just wouldn't do anything but spin its wheels after the first forty or so books -- there was no way to stop it from trying (and failing) to sync and no way to turn off auto-syncing while it was syncing. What a pain.

But I'm happy now with Calibre, and here I am, ready to learn new things

Yes, the Sony software can be very frustrating! I'm jealous of your 650. I have a mac as well, and I am at the point where moving just a book or two (drag and drop, no auto sync for me!) onto my reader works just fine.

Welcome to the forum!

Good to have your company, Eerok. I think you're right: top whack as Sony hardware is, the software is the pits. Calibre beats the socks off it. Sony and Calibre is a perfect match. Good luck and best wishes. Neil

Thanks for all the welcomes. I've been busy collecting epubs at Project Gutenberg. There's a lot of good stuff there, though it's buried in amongst some pretty obscure titles. It's like a treasure hunt

The collection of classics and Public Domain works here at the MobileRead free library isn't as large at PG, of course, Eerok, but there's still a very wide choice and the books are perfectly formatted and uploaded by generous members. Well worth a look. I've downloaded dozens of great ePub titles from there for my own Sony (505). Best. Neil
