New nook owner and confused

Please help....I just got the B&N Nook and I have been trying to put some epub books on the nook. Currently I have been using calibre to do this. Now when I use calibre, it only allows to place in main memory and it places it in a folder named new books or something. Now when I restart the nook the files are there but I can't seem to find the books when the nook comes on. I have also tried putting the folder inside a folder entitled e-books which I have noticed one of the other books I've downloaded was appearantly placed. Again, the files are there but the nook doesn't seem to show the books. I have also tried placing the individual files in the e-book folder and same problem. These books are epub and I understand that the nook uses epub so why doesn't the nook recognize the new books....Can anyone please tell me what is happening....

When you are looking for them on the nook, are you looking under My B&N Books or My Documents? Anything loaded from the computer will be under My Documents.

Also, I don't know if this applies here or not, but you will not see any books sideloaded from Calibre (I use this program to sideload my own books to the NC) on the NC's Home Screen, but you WILL find them in the Library view.

Just to further clarify what others have said, anythingg you load with Calibre will be in:
Library>My Documents.

Sometimes it can be difficult to find My Documents in the Library view, if you are in the B&N Book View, because My Documents is scrolled off the bottom panel screen (it's at the top of the bottom panel). You need to scroll the bottom panel till you can see My Documents at the top and pick it. This up/down scrolling operation can be difficult for new Nook users.

??? All of my books sideloaded from Calibre show up with their book covers in the Library View when I hit the "Books" on the menu bar at the top of the Library screen, along with any books purchased from B&N. I also have all of them sorted into "My Shelves" and they all show up with their covers there too. I don't have to go directly to the "My Documents" folder to get to them, although they ARE in that folder.

That must be because you are using Shelves. I am using version 1.5, but have never used Shelves and my arrangement still looks like it used to look under 1.4 - i.e. when I go into My Library, the top entry (on the bottom panel) is either "Go to My Documents" or "Go to My B&N Library", and I am only seeing on the main panel what is in My Documents or My B&N Library (the opposite of what the bottom panel allows you to "go to."

When I first got my Nook (1.4), I had exactly the same problem the OP is having - I'd sideload books using Calibre but then sometimes couldn't find them, when I had used My B&N Library the last time I'd used the Nook. I'd go into my library and only see the B&N books, and couldn't see any way to get to My Documents because that "go to" optioon was not appearing on the bottom panel because it had scrolled off of it. I didn't notice the scroll bar on the bottom panel. I'd be sitting there wondering how to get to My Documents.

I don't know if this is the problem the OP is having, but it sounds like what happened to me.

I am a new owner and had not seen Calibre yet. I did drop some books on via the microsd card, and although it picked up the books, anytime i removed the sd card, any shelves i had put the books on were lost.

Sorry, I guess didn't elaborate properly. I have a NookColor. I am not using any program called "Shelves". I am just using the My Shelves feature on the Nook Color, BUT the books still showed up in my NookColor's main library even BEFORE I organized them into shelves. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. Calibre loads the books into the NookColor's main library. I may be wrong, but I seem to remember somewhere that the Nook Classic doesn't combine sideloaded books into the B&N main library as the NookColor does (is that correct?). Unfortunately I am not familiar with the Nook Classic so I am not sure where they DO go... Sorry.

Ah, that changes things. The books should be loading either along side folders on your nook or in a folder just called Books. They will not show up in your nook library or on your home screen. Here's where they are:

> Go to your Library
> Tap on My Files

The books should be listed there along with folders called Documents, Music, Wallpapers, etc. If not, check the Books folder or Documents folder. They're there somewhere. I honestly am not sure where Calibre puts them as I have been loading them onto an SD card.

Yes, that is what I've been saying, that the 2 libraries remain separate on the standard Nook and it can be hard to find the My Documents library when you are in the B&N library and vice versa.

Before I found out you had a Color Nook, I thought perhaps you were getting different library views than I was because you were using the new Shelves feature of the 1.5 standard Nook. But now that I know you have a color one, forget what I said about that because it was just a guess.

I do think that it will confuse newbies even more if color users answer questions about standard Nooks, especially in areas where the 2 devices differ. I do still think that probably the OP is having trouble finding his Calibre sideloaded books because he is having troublew getting into his My Documents area. But we won't know till he chimes in on this thread again.

I agree with you there, but this thread has a "Color" ID tag attached to it, so I thought I was answering the question appropriately. Now I'm not so sure the OP actually has a NC or Classic....

Gee, you're right. I didn't even notice the "color" tag. Looks like it's my advice he should be ignoring. Sorry I didn't notice that. The problem seemed so much like what I had trouble with in the beginning that I forgot about everything else. Oops!

I have the nook color....and I am seemingly having a problem with finding the my documents section on the nook. I have it set to selves I guess as the main screen looks like a book shelf. But I don't see the my documents section or area. did I do something wrong or turn that part of the menu off or hide it somewhere accidentally? I have the books loaded from calibre in a folder called books and I even copied them to the folder called ebooks where the books that were downloaded from b&n seem to be found. So I don't know in what menu I can find the books themselves....the book shelf only seems to show the b&n books.

Yes, don't pay attention to the shelves. Books on the shelves are basically shortcuts to the books; it's not where they really live. Go to My Files > Books. Or, they might be My Files > Digital Editions. To add them to your shelves, long press on the book and you'll get a pop up window that will allow you to add them to your shelves.
