News items not auto-emailing to Kindle
I'm a new user having just got a Kindle for Christmas, so please don't shoot me if I've missed something obvious!
Last week, I installed Calibre and set up a couple of news feeds to download at 7am each day, and this worked until Sunday, (when I installed version 0.7.36, and subsequently 0.7.37). Now, although the news feeds get processed Ok and appear in Calibre, they do not get to the Kindle via my "free" kindle address (no emails from Amazon to say they have been processed either). If I send them manually via Connect/Share -> email, they arrive as expected. Auto-send is checked in "sharing books by email". I'm using my own mail server to send from a dedicated account, and obviously "test email" works (as I can send manually). I tried setting up another couple of feeds, but they don't download either. Is there anything else I should check? Thanks for your help. Ken |

look at the logs to see why they aren't being sent, every email send appers in the jobs queue accessible by clicking the rotating spinner in the bottom right corner.

There is only a "Fetch news from" job, which finishes with "EPUB output written".
When I send manually, I get 2 further jobs "Convert book" and "Email ... to ..." The fetch job gets a few errors, like "XMLSyntaxError: Opening and ending tag mismatch: hr line 29 and div, line 30, column 7", but I don't know if that is significant. Should there be convert and email jobs after each "fetch" for a scheduled download? I've tried Scotsman, BBC news (fast), NASA, Dilbert and PC Magazine and all get similar errors during download and none get emailed (or any jobs after the fetch). |

Do you have auto send checked next to your email account in email->preferences? Also make sure that you are downloading the new in the MOBI format.

A bit more investigation and I think I may have the explanation.
After typing the previous reply, it occurred to me to wonder why it had written "epub". I changed the behaviour to have a default output of "mobi" and the next download job was followed by an email job and the file was transferred as expected.. It would seem that installing the update changed the default output format for some reason (and that the wrong default output format means that it will not get converted and emailed). Not sure if this means there was a probem with the update (or with how I did it!) Hopefully the scheduled jobs will now run correctly again tomorrow morning (Sorry - your reply did not show till I had sent this. Still puzzled as to why the format changed, I didn't know about that setting till I went looking to fix it) Last edited by KenAdam; 01-04-2011 at 06:10 PM. |

Ken - You need to have the default output to mobi or it will not automatically send (to the kindle) after downloading. I just descovered this a few days ago after going thru some of the same steps you did. After changing to mobi everything is working fine.

I have just fixed this by switching to a gmail account. I'm still bamboozled about why it stopped working all of a sudden from my btinternet.com address.
Can anybody help shed any light on this? Thanks Vikki |
