What's going on at Kobo?

I went to download a free ebook at Kobo and it launched the sony store! How does it know I want to read this book on my Sony? Even if I do intend to read the book on my Sony, I really dislike the Sony bookstore and prefer to get my books somewhere else.

How can they do this to me?

When you say that "it launched the Sony Store", are you referring to the Sony eBook Library software? If your PC is set up so that's the application that's configured to handle acsm files, it would launch automatically when the Kobo site sent you the acsm to download the ePub book with.

How bizarre. Are you downloading an ePUB into ADE? Is ADE set as your download program, or is something else (like SONY reader) set up?

I don't think it's Kobo doing that, it's your computer. When you installed the Sony Library program, it now automatically opens when an epub ebook downloads, even with purchases from other companies.

I HATE the Sony program

, so I save my files and open the file using Adobe Digital Editions.

It never occurred to me that it was the downloaded file itself was launching the application. That makes a certain amount of sense. (so little in my life does)

Changing file associations will fix it right up.
