Covers - ISBN not found

Hello everybody,

I'm having a problem concerning the covers: I've recently switched from Kindle 3 to Sony PRS 650 and now, having my library rebuilt in ePub, Calibre doesn't find almost all of the covers (it finds just few). The strange point is that those... were the book I already owned before and which had their own covers found through Calibre.

Now, everytime I try to find a cover, Calibre replies that "Failed to download cover for the following: (list of the books and the sites searched) - ISBN not found.

I'm confused if calibre has already found the covers, why do you need to find them again?

Because all the previous files were .prc and I decided to delete them and convert .epub from .lit files instead.

Ah, well as a general tip you should remove the ISBN from the metadata before downloading a cover, that way more matches are searched. Also at this time of year most websites experience rather heavy traffic and malfunction sporadically (I know the calibre website has seen a doubling).

So you think this is a temporary traffic problem with the site searched for covers?
Is there any command to delete all the ISBN in a bunch?

use the bulk metadata edit search and replace feature

I know the feature but how can I apply it to delete the ISBN? I don't want to make any damage to the library.

0) select a bunch of books for which you want to remove the isbn
1) go to search/replace in bulk edit
2) switch to regular expression mode
3) select isbn as the source field
4) see the isbns come up in the test boxes
5) put .* (point star) in the search for box
6) see the isbns go away from the test result boxes
7) press OK if you really want to do it.

Thanks alot. Then, to search for covers, do I have to select "get only covers" or "get metadata and covers"?

Depends on what you want to do.

I really should be quiet here, because I never use the download metadata features.

I just would like to download the covers in order to see them in my PRS-650.

I did it. Now, even if I deleted the ISBN, Calibre continues to display the "ISBN not found" error. I checked if the ISBN was automatically added during the search, and no, the ISBN field is still empty. How can this be?

Using edit-metadata (single), look at a book to see if the isbns are really gone.

It's exactly what I've done. The ISBN are gone, but still there's the ISBN not found problem.

During the cover search process suddenly the sentence "searching for metadata" suddenly appears and then comes the error. But if I after check the ISBN, it is not added after this process, it is still gone.
