Hi all,
I've just ordered a Kindle gift pack from MobileFun here in the UK. It consists of a leather style case, silicon sleeve, screen protector, car charger and clip-on reading light, all for £19.95. Link below. As soon as I get it (later this week), I'll post here my opinion and a mini review. For what it's worth, I've been buying from MobileFun for a few years and they are great to deal with. They have quite a reputation for speed of delivery and customer service. And no, I'm not connected with them. ![]() http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/amazon-ki...ack-p26910.htm Cheers, Leaston Last edited by leaston; 12-31-2010 at 06:51 AM. |

not sure what good the screen protector is as the pictures make the screen itself seem rather dull. good post though

I must admit, I have no intention of using the screen protector. Once I have the case, it will make it unnecessary for me.

Yay, it's arrived
![]() Letherette case It isn't leather, but it certainly does look like it. The case is really nicely made in what appears to be soft, black leather and is nicely padded on the outside. The front and back panels are rigid on the inside and will protect the Kindle very well. Inside the front cover is a small pocket about the size of a couple of credit cards. The inside is lined with soft material which won't damage or scratch the screen. The Kindle itself is held in place by two small leather-like straps at the bottom which just fit over each corner. The top is held by similar straps, but using strong elastic. Once fitted, the Kindle is held extremely snugly and it can't be moved, so there's no danger of it falling out. All the buttons and controls are still accessible. The clasp on the front is a large flap with a magnetic clip that simply clicks into place. This is much better than a press stud as you don't need to push down on the front cover (and put pressure on the screen) in order to fasten the case. The front cover also folds over and around the back and can be fastened to hold it in place and out of the way. A nice touch. This makes it easy to continue using the Kindle one handed. The case does add quite a bit of weight, but I'd say combined it's still no heavier than an average paperback, so it's not going to be uncomfortable to hold for long periods. Overall score: 10/10 (unless you really want or need leather) Reading Light The light is comprised of a battery holder (3 x AA) with the clip attached, a 22cm long flexible neck and small oval shaped head containing the LED and a push on/off switch. Once the Kindle case is folded so the front cover is around the back, the clip-on part of the light fits really nicely into the space between the front and back covers. The neck is more than long enough to reach wherever you need to place it and is stiff enough to stay put. The LED itself is easily bright enough to read with and the light is diffused enough to be fairly soft, even in pitch black (I tried this in a room with no window). It is also bright enough to reach the far corner of the screen with almost no drop off (a complaint I have seen levelled at other such lights). My only gripe with the light - and this really is a minor complaint - is that the small, clear plastic lens covering the LED is quite loose and rattles every time you move. It's probably going to be very annoying in a quiet bedroom when the person (people?!) next to you are trying to sleep. A drop of glue will sort this easily though. Overall: 9/10 (without the lens fixed) Silicone skin This is a simple, black skin made from a soft silicone material. It fits well on the Kindle and has cutouts for all the connectors. The controls are either open to use or covered with silicone moulded button shapes. To be honest, I can't yet think of a scenario when I'd need to use this skin over the case, but it's functional and probably useful if the case isn't suitable for some reason. I can't really fault it. Overall: 10/10 Screen protectors Wow, there were a generous five of these in the pack, along with a small soft cloth and rigid card to help with fitting. The protectors are made from a clear, smooth and shiny plastic. As the Kindle has a textured screen to prevent reflections and glare, I won't be using them. If the silicone skin is ever needed, one of these may come in handy as the screen is open to the elements. However, with the case, the screen is always protected when not in use and to me, this makes the protectors redundant in most cases. I doubt they'd be anything more than an irritation when used due to their being so shiny. I guess this won't bother some of you though. Overall: 5/10 Car charger This is a standard looking car charger which plugs into any 12v power socket (cigarette lighter or similar). It has a curly, stretchy cable and the correct USB plug for the Kindle. I haven't tried this yet, but I have no reason to doubt it works as advertised. Overall: 10/10 (without testing) Conclusion Well, for just under £20, I have managed to cover most bases with accessories I may need for the Kindle and this pack really is a steal for the price! The case alone would have been well worth the asking price and I think the addition of the rest of the kit is just a bonus, especially the reading light. Total score: 11/10 ![]() Purchased from Mobile Fun: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/amazon-ki...ack-p26910.htm Last edited by leaston; 12-31-2010 at 06:59 AM. Reason: Spelling....! |

It sounds excellent value for money - thanks for the detailed report.
One exceedingly minor point: the material the "skin" is made from is "silicone" (with an "e" on the end); not "silicon" ![]() |
