Access to NY Times

Hello all

I just got my Kindle and am trying desperately to understand some of the technical aspects. I have two questions:

1.I just tried to download the NY Times to my Kindle via Calibre. It appears in the Calibre ebooks window but it does not appear on the Kindle. A pop up error message provided the following info

ERROR: Failed to email book: Failed: Email New York Times to (my kindle email address)

Email New York Times to (my kindle email address)

Sending failed...

File "site-packages\calibre\utils\smtp.py", line 91, in sendmail
File "site-packages\calibre\utils\smtp.py", line 83, in sendmail_direct
IOError: Failed to send mail: SMTPServerDisconnected('Connection unexpectedly closed',)

Retrying in 1 seconds...

Any idea what I did wrong?

2. I have the NY Times delivered and can also use Times Reader 2.0 to read it online. Can I send this version to the Kindle? If so, what is the process?

I did not see these questions addressed before and would appreciate any help.

Regards
Mac

The email error is frequently reported by people using a non-Gmail address for mailing the books- the common cure seems to be to just use a Gmail address and everything should work. Do a forum search for the error message if you need more details, there should be quite a few threads for this.

As for the NY Times question: Try looking for a recipe. There may already be one in the news section of Calibre, if not, search the recipe subforum.

As suggested, I looked for some insight in previous posts. Those that I found said that it was not possible to view Times Reader 2.0 via the Kindle.

I then went to the Times Reader FAQ's and found the following:

"21. Does Times Reader work on the Amazon Kindle or other eReaders?

No, Times Reader does not run on the Amazon Kindle or other e-reader/e-ink devices. However, special editions of The New York Times for the Amazon Kindle, the Barnes & Noble Nook and Sony Reader are available by subscription."

For the same $19.99 that I pay for the NY Times Kindle version, (with reduced content?) I can subscribe to the 2.0 version, which I am told is a exact copy of the home delivery version.

Do any of the Gurus here have the ability to accomplish this?
