Smile Hello all

I found this forum while doing some research on Nook and why would I want one. I happen to know that I will have one soon, and have been trying to decide If I want to keep it, or return it and get Kindle, instead. The primary reason for choosing Nook im, is the lending library feature. So I want to learn more about it. I am hoping that someone here can help with this and convince me that Nook is superior, despite B&N's inferior ( imo ) customer service.

I am an avid reader.. my count for this year .. so far.. is about 126 books.I read many different genres and I am a member of LibraryThing.com which contributes mightily to my TBR tower which this takes up a lot of space! I am still not convinced that an e-reader is for me at all, since I am such a book lover. Can you tell I am conflicted ? lol Help!

Hi mckait and welcome to MobileRead. I borrow eBooks from the library all the time and find it very convenient. In fact, back in October, I borrowed an eBook from the Fairfax, VA public library while on a flight from Baltimore to Dallas at 32K feet. The plane had WiFi and it was easy to do.

Hi mckait

Have you considered other devices? The Sonys are very popular around here as well, and most other brands also allow library borrowing. Does your local library have ebooks for loan? If not, and even if it does, there are many libraries which allow non-resident membership. The Free Library of Philadelphia is well regarded here.

I am also an avid reader, and I love my ereader (Sony 300). My local library has ebooks, and it's fantastic being able to borrow books while away from home. Not to mention the difference between carrying one ereader (200g) compared to all the books I would otherwise have to lug. I would definitely recommend getting one, though of course I'm biased!

When choosing an ereader you should first consider how you are going to use it, and if there are any particular features that are important. For example, will you be using it for library books a lot, or buying? Do you want connectivity (3g/wifi) or are you happy to sideload from your computer (library books have to be sideloaded). What is your budget and how much extra would you pay for a device that is perfect, compared to one that is almost perfect? Are you prepared to strip DRM and convert books between formats, or do you just want something that works more or less out of the box? We have a specific forum for exactly this question called Which one should I buy? so have a look around there and give us an idea of what you're looking for and plenty of people will chime in.

Welcome, Mckait, Wow, that is a lot of books. I just got a new kindle and am enjoying the experience, but I don't have anything to compare it to.

Whichever one your choose, enjoy the heck out of it!

Well, I just learned that I will be getting a nook for christmas. My BIL spilled the beans. My sister and husband conspired. Not sure if i will keep it..
I want to directly download on a device and use it for library loans.
I am glad to learn about the library at Philly. I am wondering if Pittsburgh library has any similar program? I will have to find that out.

Thank you for the friendly welcomes and good information .. I am happy to "meet" you all ! Oh and Merry Christmas
