.vmdk to ESXi 4 issues

Hi,

I have been attempting to run a small devel virtual applicance (the F10 release).

I can get a live backup running with my virtualbox session running, sitting at login.

The problem seems to be related when it's about to load the GUI, it just sits and hangs. I can login from prompt but i'm not sure where to go from here. (not a total linux noob, but close)

I did notice the virtualbox module load having failed and then it just starts flashing when it attempts to load anacron..and then seemingly hangs.

Can anyone offer any advice for me to get this going under esxi? (using VSphere Client)

thanks!

I am a Linux noob. Are you sure you're in the correct forum?

I didn't know if any of the developers for the calibre software or its virtual variants were one in the same. I take it that no, they are not.

I didn't know where else to ask, since it seems a large portion of the calibre community focuses mainly on specific forums. (we're a rare breed)

I'm still troubleshooting and wonder if anyone could give me advice. If this thread is not relevant to the normal discussion that you find in the Calibre channel, then please direct it elsewhere.

thank you

I'm confused. Are you trying to run a calibre virtual appliance? If you are, there's no need, you can setup a development environment trivially by following the instructions in the user manual

I had done some research and found a calibre virtual appliance made for VirtualBox. It is based on Fedora 10 and uses XFCE interface.

I had hopes of simply converting it somehow to my ESXi server at home, and I was not able to using the typical ovf import. I had to use it's powerful live import tool, as in, I makes a duplicate while the system is powered on.

This looked as if it worked, but obviously some thins went wrong.

I will definitely look in your manual, but I wanted the smallest footprint I could have running a simple instance of calibre. It would mostly be for content server purposes and possibly to have my kobo reader plugged into it at times to update some news headlines.

Where in the manual should I be looking? Does it give some precise instructions on which distro is best and what additions I need? (i.e. Scripts, guy to use, etc)

Thanks, and have a safe a happ holiday season. All the best.

Peace

The closest to best distro would be Gentoo because that's what Kovid uses. But I've used Ubuntu and Arch Linux without problems.
