The most fascinating start to a novel in my experience - Iain Banks´ The Business. Me myself I´m a grumpy old faroese booklover living in Copenhagen and a bit helplessly trying to handle these technological miracles that promise easy access to the wonderful world of books. I think the creator of the Calibre program Kovid Goyal is a special emissary from heaven.
