kindle and iPad??

I'm about to get an iPad. I'm looking for ways to get books to it in the same easy way I can get books to my Kindle Touch.

I've seen this post:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...highlight=ipad

And I understand one way is to use IOS file sharing. But this is pretty manual, piece-by-piece compared to the way the Kindle and Calibre interact.

Any better suggestions? Is there a way to use some of the sync services (I already use Sugarsync) to get syncing done easily??

thanks,

.

It is easy to get books into iBooks using the Calibre "Connect to iTunes" feature. This is the closest equivalent to the USB connection for a physical Kindle. However is does not work for other eReaders on the iPad. For USB transfer to other apps you need to use iOS file sharing in iTunes.

If you are using the Kindle app you can still get books by emailing them via Amazon.

Another possibility is to pull them on demand into any eReader app using Safari and the Calibre server (or an equivalent such as a calibre2opds catalog).

You can also use a syncing service such a sugarsync and Dropbox, saving the files to a folder managed by the syncing service from Calibre and then on the iPad use the Open In option to transfer the file to the reader app.

I already use Sugarsync, syncing the Calibre library between my main computer and a laptop. Seems to work fine.

Can I just sync this same file with the iPad??

thnx

Using the above method, is is possible to update notes, highlights and reading place without using Amazon Whispersync? I have my own, cleaned version of my library books in Calibre and would prefer not to contaminate my system with versions from the Amazon Cloud.

I use Calibre, a K3, iPad, iPhone and MacBook Pro to read. I have a DropBox account backing up my Calibre library.

Thanks--the learning curve for Kindle-Calibre has been a slow one for me.

No - I cannot see that working. There is no communication from the reader (kindle) app on iOS back to Dropbox to store or update files.

Thanks for the quick reply! I appreciate it.

Oh, that's too bad. So I'm stuck with the Whispersync ecosystem if I want to carry highlights, etc. from iOS.

What about between my K3 and MacBook Pro, same thing, no carrying info back and forth?

So if I complete my migration from Amazon Cloud to Calibre exclusively, I'd need to just keep each book dedicated to one device to retain this information?
