Calibre v7.33 Dramatically Slower

I'm surprised I couldn't find anyone else with this problem.
Pardon me if this was posted already.

I find v7.33 dramatically slower than the previous version.
Both in adding new books (I usually drag & drop) and from editing the metadata (hotkey 'E').
I haven't made any changes to my preferences.
Just upgraded to the new version in the standard way.
Is there something I'm missing?

I'm on Vista x64.

I love Calibre so I hope you don't take this as a complaint.
Please keep up the great work!

I haven't noticed anything in that direction. Did anything else on your system change (AV software, hardware, ...) or was the Calibre update the only thing changed?

No other system changes since the last update that I can think of.
I'm generally pretty tech savvy and initially assumed it would resolve itself but it's continuing to be a problem.
I upgraded from the last most recent (7.32?) version and didn't skip a version.

Thanks in advance for the assist!

Do you have any data on how long it took to do certain operations vs. how long it takes now?

Hmm, I'd say for an average ebook the previous version would add/save it to the directory/DB in only a few seconds.
The speed improvements from a few version previous were noticeable to me.

With the new version the after a drag & drop, the "adding" dialog goes away in about 5 seconds and then I get a "wait" cursor for about 30 seconds before the book is visible in the list.
It's about the same length of time when editing the meta data as far as I can tell.

Thanks again!

I just checked the Process information and while adding a book Calibre is using 23% of CPU and 645MB of memory!!!
The calibre-parallel.exe worker processes are 0% & 20MB each.
Hope this helps.

I confirm, Calibre is running considerably slower since this update. I recon that the wait, after adding a book is about double that from the previous update.

There is a memory leak in the edit metadata dialog introduced in 0.7.32 that is likely causing this (will be fixed for next release).

No problem, let me know if 0.7.34 which will be released Friday fixes it for you.

And this is why calibre rocks. How many other programs have the author saying "It'll be fixed Friday"? The words "working as intended" and "next year's version" come to mind.

I am really impressed by the speed of response by the developer and will be making a donation right now to show my thanks.
Keep up the good work.

Well, hate to rain on all the kudos, but has this fix been checked in yet? I'm running from source and I'm seeing slowdowns over time.

Particularly with adding books. Freshly launched, everything runs great, really fast. If I come back to it 8-12 hours later I notice a significant slowdown.

Here are some examples:
Code:
Added DropCaps to db in: 0.168881893158 seconds
Job: 11 Read metadata (0 of 1) finished
Read metadata (0 of 1)
	MOBI header version = 6, length = 232
	Extra Data Flags = 7
	This book is not encrypted.

Added A Study in Scarlet to db in: 2.45061302185 seconds
get_metadata cache: 2440 calls, 93.81% misses
pc-264:~ home$ calibre-debug -g
Starting up...
Started up in 15.5467059612
Added A Study in Scarlet to db in: 0.0322260856628 seconds
Job: 1 Read metadata (0 of 1) finished
Read metadata (0 of 1)
	MOBI header version = 6, length = 232
	Extra Data Flags = 7
	This book is not encrypted.
'Dropcaps' was added shortly after a re-launch of the program.
The first 'A study in scarlet' was added to the same Calibre instance 12-13 hours later.
The second 'A Study in Scarlet' instance was added just now, immediately after re-starting Calibre.

I see there is a bug open for something along these lines on the bug tracker, can add more info there if needed.
