New to ebooks
I will be receiving a Nook ebook reader from my daughter for Christmas (I have to act surprised.) I have always been an avid reader and have many hundreds of printed books. My wife says some have to go. I like the idea of the nook since my wife will be getting one as well and we can lend books from one another for 14 days, so we don't have to both buy the same books.

My reason for joining this forum is mainly to get ideas on what people think of ebooks and where are the best places to find the best priced priced books. I have been sort of following the ebook prices and it seems that prices at traditional sites have been rising considerably of late. Are there alternate sites to get current books at lower prices?

Hi and welcome. The price surge you see on e-books has a lot to do with the Agency 5 model where the book stores are no longer allowed to decide the price which is set by the publisher and must be adhered to by everyone who wants to sell the book.

Big established authors will be hard to find elsewhere for a lower price. There are however alternatives if your willing to go with non established authors. Smashwords (all sort of books) and Baen (Fiction) are two stores that comes to mind.

If your willing to read old books where the copyright has expired there's a ton of books here at Mobileread which won't cost you a penny, except a thanks to the up-loader.

This is great and just what I was looking for. Smashwords and others sound fantastic. It's amazing what you can get out of a good web site and forum. Since making my original post, I have browsed some of the web site and there is an awful lot of great iformation.
