ARgggg wrong book at the library!

I was on the waiting list for Die Trying, Book 2 in the Jack Reacher series, and it'd been a couple months, so I got the email today, saying ready to check out.

Awesome, I checked it out, opened it up (the cover was Die Trying), and the text was:

wait for it.......

Glass Houses
A Morganville Vampire Book
Book 1
by Rachel Caine

WTF????? C'mon Cincinnati Public Library, just because the Bengals suck doesn't mean you get to as well.

I emailed them, and hopefully I'll get a response back.

I had this happen a couple of weeks ago. The guy at the library had to act as an intermediary with Overdrive, which doesn't deal with the public directly. A day or so later he emailed me a copy of Overdrive's response to the extent that they will be removing the item from their system, contacting the publisher, and re-loading the correct book when they get it. Would I (your patron) like to be placed (at the top of) the hold queue when that happens? I replied "Yes, thank you"; that was forwarded to Overdrive, the book disappeared from My Items Out a day after that ... and I'm still waiting for the original book.

Funny thing was that the "wrong" book was one I had read and liked (that my library doesn't own as an ebook)!

I might take you up on that; I went to re-download the book to see if they fixed it and it says I have to go to the library to renew my card

I don't know, this has never happened to me before. I think they're pretty quick about fixing things...right?

When that happened to me it was also a Morganville Vampire Book, (#6, I think?) That is so weird. Maybe it's a vampire conspiracy.

happened before

This has happened to me before. Admittedly not with a library ebook but with a purchased one. It is generally a result of the publisher accidently uploading the wrong file. Not sure how the library can fix that one though because they get their ebooks from Overdrive, or most likely get them from Overdrive. Anyway in the past I either got refunded or the correct file was sent.

The library reports the problem to Overdrive.
Overdrive contacts the publisher.
The publisher supplies an e-copy of the correct, listed book; Overdrive removes the old book,
and links the new text instead (meanwhile, the wrong book stays in effect).

This is the email that I recieved from the Library
Quote:
Hello Joe,

The title has been removed from your library so you should be able to download another book. Unfortunately, Overdrive says they’ve been trying to work with this publisher “for months” so it’s going to be a while before the corrected version of Lee Child’s book becomes available. I will certainly let you know when it does.

In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions or problems.

Regards, Sandy Bolek

This just happened to me! I tried to borrow Patrick Rothfuss' The Name of the Wind, and ended up with Carpe Corpus by Rachel Caine. I contacted the library, and they contacted Overdrive, and Overdrive has contacted the publisher. Hopefully the publisher will put up the correct file soon.
