Wifi won't stay connected
I'm pretty much a noobie and am not very saavy on all the lingo and such so please be gentle. I am rooted but simply followed a great YouTube video last January when I got my NC.
![]() The problem started about 2 weeks ago and I'm pretty sure I know "why" but have no idea on the "how" for fixing it. First, I need to give a bit of background info, so bear with me. Even though I rooted my NC myself, I was too chicken to try it on my Samsung Fascinate phone and never really felt the need. Well, I got a Clear Protector for my NC and the guy in the store said I could use my phone as a tether if I'm somewhere without wifi. I thought cool, let's do it. I (gasp) let him (I've learned a hard lesson) root my phone (wasted $30) and set up the tethering. It worked and thought I was good to go. So...this is the problem with my NC. Ever since the guy in the store did whatever it was he did, I cannot stay connected to my wifi at home. Every time it goes to sleep or its been on for a while and I try to do anything that requires the connection, I have to turn of wifi then turn it on again for it to find my network. It shows its "Not in range, remembered" until I do this. I never had this problem before. If I was home, I was connected. Period. Also, when in Settings -->Wireless it doesn't see any secured networks unti I've turned it on again. Then it sees the neighbors wireless networks and connects to mine. I went back to the store and the guy said he could undo what he did but he'd have to talk to another guy he called when he set it up to be sure he undid the right thing. Um, I said not to worry about it and jetted out of there. Sorry this is so long...but I really need some help. Thanks in advance. Last edited by da2zoe; 07-09-2011 at 01:05 AM. Reason: Added info |

Don't know how, but it sounds like he used the ad-hoc patch (for nook) found on the XDA developers site. Essentially what it does is allow your nook color to connect to phones using a peer to peer connection (my guess is the program you are using to tether your phone is barnacle- which is ad-hoc only). The bad thing about using the nook ad-hoc patch is exactly your problem. Every time your nook goes to sleep, you lose connection. For the most part, unless you want to factory reset your nook, you are stuck with it. Well not exactly, but to a beginner, the other option would seem out of their league.
Me, I use the ad-hoc patch because my Droid really wasn't meant to be a router. Luckily with programs like Barnacle, I can connect with my nook. I just deal with the pain of resetting the wireless if it goes to sleep. HIGH HORSE MODE ON Don't let people mess with your stuff if you are unsure exactly what they are doing. Luckily the guy helped you a bit, but he also voided any warranty on your phone by rooting it. Even if unrooted, they (the man) can see it's been rooted. The whole root process is getting easier all the time (Super One-Click anyone?), but that leaves the uninitiated down a very slippery slope, and they often get stuck at the bottom.
