Ditchfield, P.H.: Books Fatal to Their Author. 04 May 2008
We all know that words can be used as weapons. In this 1894 book Ditchfield examines not only authors that have dies but publishers and other too. An interesting read that sometimes seems to drop into the "yellow journalism" of the day.

Nice book: thanks Wood.
Just so long as they're not fatal to their editors - otherwise we're in trouble (being fairly prolific uploaders). |

There are a few cases of that too. As the old carnival barker once said, "You pays yer money and yer chances." Its been over a hundred years since the book came out so I;m not too worried (knock on wood; hey, that hurt.) Thanks for your concern.

Well, ebooks are probably safer than p-books. Quite apart from the (fictional) toxic tome in 'The Name of the Rose', the composer Alkan died after reaching for a book high up on one of the upper shelves of his book-case. It then fell on him with fatal results.
So we are guardians of public safety, as well as editors. |
