Kindle in Spain

Hi. Newbie here from Spain. I've had a Kindle sent to a friend in the States and he'll be bringing it over in a few days when he comes to visit for Christmas. Can't wait!

I've noticed that Amazon has me registered as living in the U.S. and I wonder if that is an advantage or a disadvantage. Will I get a better deal on books as a resident of Spain or the United States?

Thanks for any advice you might be able to offer.

You will have more access to books registered to the US then Spain. I do not know how this affects the availablity of books in Spanish. Many people create accounts with a fake US address in order to get access to the US ebook market, which is larger then many other countries ebook market. My guess is that it is a good thing.

Thanks, Prof. That's good to know.

At the risk of going off topic in my own thread, I'd like to ask about your signature. Could you please recommend some of those other book stores where one can buy Non DRMed Mobi books for the Kindle (or perhaps direct me to another thread)?

One advice: if you purchase ebooks from the USA Store being in Spain and having the Kindle registered in USA, you have a lot of "stock options" to receive the letter from Amazon asking you demonstrate you are a valid USA citizen for example sending them a copy of your USA Passport.

However, if you always purchase them via one PC, you'll never will be asked to. At least until now.

No problem. I'm an American citizen, although I've been over here for twenty years. I'll gladly send them a copy of my passport if that's what they want.
