Hello everybody

Hi everybody,

I'm new to this forum. I finally took the plunge and purchased a Sony PRS-650 ebook reader a week ago. I love it! I've been waiting for a decent, inexpensive ebook reader with a truly good display, battery life, usability, and the ability to display open file formats for at least 10 years, and I feel this is almost it. Not quite the device I truly dream of, but getting close.

For the ebooks to go with my Sony Reader, I've taken the same route I took with audio files when I first purchased my Rio PMP300 player: I only accept file formats that I'm sure I'll be able to open when I'm old. For the longest time, that meant reading only books from the Gutenberg project, or books I scanned myself (then OCRed myself after OCR became reliable). Either I'd buy the books and scan them, or I'd borrow them, scan them then send money to the authors directly.

At first, it wasn't that I even wanted to scan books, but as an english reader living in a non-english country, it's not always very easy to find the kind of material that interests me. So over the years, I've collected books that interested me, and now I have a device to (re-)read them away from the computer.

I read when I don't do anything else. I always have a book on me, and now I have dozens of books and my favorite newspapers from around the world in my pocket, ready to entertain, inform or educate me wherever. It's fantastic, technology truly has come a long way!

So, this is who I am. I look forward to participating in this interesting forum.

Take care y'all and happy reading!

Welcome Fastolfe - glad to see a dedicated book reader. That is the part I love about ereaders, you always have a book, in fact a choice of books (or magazines or whatever) for any mood you happen to be in whenever you want to read. Happy reading!
