I'm finally giving in

I've often said that people shouldn't make fun of literary phenoms - and the masses who follow along - until they've actually read the book in question.

Then I started making fun of Twilight fans.

So I'm finally giving in and reading the series. I'm going to try anyway, and in the end I'll either continue to make fun of "them" or start making fun of "me and them."

Wish me luck, folks.

Good luck! That's one of those books that it seems like everyone around me has read -- I couldn't even make it through the excerpt on the B&N site. I want to read it though, so that I can finally understand all the jokes and references.

If you can make it through, maybe I'll try it for real too.

Congratulations and commiserations.

I tried to read them, but couldn't. As a writer, I don't think they're well-written, and as a parent I think they're very creepy. However, Stephenie Meyer must be doing something right because a huge number of people really enjoy those books. Something must resonate with her readers.

I just can't fathom what it is, but it's got to be there.

Good luck.

I never attempted to read the Twilight books, but I read the first couple of pages of a science fiction book she wrote, and couldn't go further than that. Lousy writer.

A good book is in the eye of the reader. I very much enjoyed the first two books so in my eyes she is a good writer. However, if you are not inclined toward that particular genre, then it may be a hard sell.

I read them, and I enjoyed them . Some of the characters you'll want to slap a couple times, but I think that goes with any fiction novel. To each his/her own i guess

I don't enjoy a work of fiction in which I can't find any of the characters likable as people (even if they're not human, if they're sentient I consider them people), but that's my personality. YMMV.

It ain't the genre-- it is the writing. It is dead, lifeless prose that lies on the page limp as a dishrag.

My hat is off to you. I read the first Harry Potter, and vowed to "not get fooled again." So no Twilight for me.

Here's hoping you'll enjoy it more than you suspect!

^Not gonna try convince you, but Harry Potter really finds its legs starting in the 3rd book. The first 2 are okay, but very 'childish'.

I read the whole Twilight series while I was also reading Under the Dome. I actually enjoyed Meyer's books, but King left a lot to be desired with that one.

I felt the same way about that one. He really disappointed me.

If you make it through - you are a much stronger woman that I.

an btw, I'm a huge fan of Paranormal Romance. I worship at the feet of Nalini Singh, Patty Briggs, and Ilona Andrews. I have never been able to finish a Twilight novel - and believe me, I have TRIED.
