HI,I AM NOT TECHNICALLY MINDED,AS A PERSON WHO IS STARTING TECH STUFF LATE IN LIFE.I NEED AS MUCH INFO AS POSSIBLE WITH REGARDS TO PURCHASE OF eREADER,WAS THINKING OF KINDLE3G,any suggestions???

Good to have your company, Terrance. The Kogan seems pretty popular Down Under. We bought one for one of our Australian authors. She loves it, but reckons it's probably still a bit overpriced to reasonably compete with other devices available to you now. Everything else she says about it is positive, apart from the fact that she found the page-turn button a tad awkwardly placed until she got into the swing of the device. Best wishes and good luck. Have had Astak EZReader for over a year and just bought Kindle 3 from Amazon. Kindle text is much clearer and the 6 inch versus 5 inch screen makes it easier on my eyes.
Kindle uses Mobi as its native format. All you need is Calibre or similar software to convert your books.

Sony Reader is probably the nicest if you want to by from not Amazon. Conversion is a hassle.

Quite a few of my Oz pals have opted for Sony (as AprilHare suggests), Terrace. I've been using one for the past couple of years and it's a lovely wee gizmo and very flexible if you use it in tandem with the free and excellent Calibre library software. Like you, I'm outside the US and UK, so you'd maybe find it better than Kindle if you don't need a wi-fi connection. That feature has always seemed a tad superfluous to me unless you happen to travel far from home a lot. And the Sony uses the standard open-format ePub rather than being format-exclusive as Kindle is with it's Amazon-owned Mobi. As AprilHare again says, converting DRM-locked books to and from Mobi can be awkward if not impossible. Iechyd da. Neil

Sony has the best build quality. It's smaller for same screen size and basically cooler-looking than any other reader (an important consideration here in Melbourne!).
Pdf handling is pretty good, but not a patch on the Boox.
I like that it has no wifi.
It can be a bit slow reconstructing its directories, which it does after each time you load a new book.

But now I'm having real trouble with the Kogan again. Computer won't recognise it, nothing from Calibre transfers to it, and the device itself gets more not less irritting to use. A great shame.
