Kindle "now reading" tip

I didn't see a "Kindle tips" sticky, so I thought I'd share a tip recently passed on to me.

I recently switched from a PRS-505 to a current-gen Kindle and complained to someone about the lack of the "Continue Reading" as the permanent first option on the home screen without switching out of collections (author or title view).

He said, "Just make a Now reading ... collection and add the 1, 2, 3 or however many books you want to it."

Boom! Problem solved. True, I have to drill down once to see the list, but because I always have a few books in progress, this actually works better. And the little progress dots below each title make this an even more useful reference.

You don't have to add the ellipsis.

Pretty clever.

What I did to solve the problem was just have 10 collections. And then I don't put stuff into a collection until I am done reading.

That way, I just have to go to the second page to resume what I was reading.

Mine is "Reading..."

(Followed by "Fiction", "Science Fiction", "Non-Fiction", "Manga", "Reference", "Samples" and "News"

It really is the most natural setup for me personally.

I have a "reading" folder. If you have collections listed first, it's very simple to get into your most recent book. Flick the power switch and then double click the select button. There's no need to wait for screens to load before hitting buttons

Yep, I have "NOW" and "Next" categories. The latter helps me because otherwise I would cram every book I want to keep under the radar, but don't have time to read and focus on right now, in the NOW category.
I my previous reader I had a "Read" category, but I don't see the need for it now.

I'm a sorting and organizing nut, and the lack of a PC style "directory" sorting kind of bothers me, but I manage. It's also slightly annoying that the Collections on the K3 only sort by "most recent" and are constantly changing order.

I actually just made a "Currently Reading" Collection this morning. My other Collections are Sci-Fi, Fantasy, General Fiction, Biographies & Memoirs, Guides & Game Literature (mostly for saved GameFAQs stuff), Kindle (for system docs and reference), Roleplaying (various pen & paper game eBooks and personal docs), Language (I love conlangs and like having my references with me, real and artificial), and then a collection for each author with more than 3 books on my Kindle. I've also got a single collection simply titled Pictures & Manga for all of my picture folders, and a Games & Apps collection for my "active content".

If at some point I'm bored and not in the mood to read, I may even add collections for file types. I've been showing off my K3 non-stop for the past 2 days (since I got it) and a lot of people like seeing how PDFs show up compared to other file types, and so on.
