Just received my first sony e-reader, are screen protectors a must?

So my new prs-350sc came in today and I am really loving it.

I have always been into screen protectors and all my electronics with a touch interface have one. Since I am new to the reader and the technology in the screen was wondering if protectors are strongly recommended?

A cover is probably necessary, but not a screen protector. I don't have a screen protector on my 505, which is now 3 years old, nor on my month-old 950. I do have covers that I got from Sony on them, however. Also, there is a question whether a screen protector would interfere with the touch screen.

Never used any screen protector for my sony devices (505,900,650) and never had any problems (finger prints...).

Never used one and never had a problem.

Don't touch the screen with anything that would scratch it (metal, etc)

You do not need a screen protector. But you do need a cover.

What everybody before me said.
Cover is almost a must.
Screen protection is unnecessary.

I always use a screen protector; they don't cost much and depending upon the brand, they don't cut down your visability. I use Lexerd, but it's more an individual preference. I use my nails to tap and turn pages, and I notice on my screen protector for my 600 it has a few light scratches in one spot where I use my nails to turn the pages.

I never use a screen protector with any of my kit (including camera LCD screens - and I mistreat my cameras more than I ever would my ereaders).

The way I look at it, by the time the screen is scratched, the tech will have moved on so far that I'll be itching to replace it, anyway.

I used to be a perfectionist and obsess about every tiny mark - now I'm glad when the first mark happens, because it means I can stop obsessing and start using the device comfortably.

Considering you don't even need to touch the screen on the 650, using your nail wouldn't be too much of a problem, as long as you don't push down too hard...

Agree.
I am tempted to grow up a couple myself. It is so convenient. Fingertips, even if they are immaculately clean and dry, have some natural something on them unless you have over dry skin. So, very often when I want to double tap or choose an option, I turn my finger upside down and use its nail (it is a very uncomfortable act). I thought it would be so convenient to be a girl with long fingernails Only turning pages i.g., swiping I do with fingertips.
