Trouble Tree

Forgive me if you have heard it before.

After dinner he walked me to the car. We passed the tree and curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had seen him do at the little tree.

“Oh, that’s my trouble tree,” he replied. “I know I can’t help having troubles on the job, but one thing’s for sure, those troubles don’t belong in the house with my wife and children. So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home and ask God to take care of them. Then in the morning I pick them up again. Funny thing is,” he smiled, when I come out in the morning to pick them up, there aren’t nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before.”

ah! that is very sweet. in some of the southwest Native cultures there is a "worry doll" that you tell your troubles to before you go to sleep

it is usually a small basket with a bunch of tiny dolls in it. every doll gets a different trouble

I like that. But what if the trouble starts in the house? Some people need trouble trees outside their work places..... I can think of one person in particular who could *really* use that, for the sanity of the rest of us...

Eventually, the troubles thoughtlessly burdened on the tree became too much for it to bear, it snapped, and it killed the whole family in their sleep.

The case was never solved.

(Not like this tree, which must have had "Welcome" written across her forehead.)

The op put such a touching, inspirational story up, I"m not sure why you felt you had to make fun of it.

In the book "Noble House," there is a 'Shrieking Tree' that the main character uses to unload his troubles upon. It surly better than coming home with them and beating your family.

I like the idea of a worry doll. Might see me going to sleep--get my dollies out from under my bed----muttering all my troubles away---happily going to sleep.

My trouble doll would end up being a punching bag

Actually, I'll sometimes talk to my dog when we go for a walk. When the walk is over and we get home she still wants to sit on the couch with me or play fetch or just sit and have her belly scratched so everything must be ok!!

That's also why I love pets. They'll listen, don't complain and most certainly won't tell!
