Using a Sony in China

I'm trying to figure out which ereader to buy before we move to China and was wondering if anyone has been able to successfully use a one of the Sony ereaders in China or other countries outside the US? Have you had to do anything different to make it work? Have you had any trouble downloading books from any of the ebook stores?

Thanks!

What Sony eReaders you are talking about ?

300/350 and 600/650 will be working fine as they have no wifi or 3g.
900/950 should be fine too except for 3g which is U.S. only.

There are many Sony units working fine all over the world except for 3g which is U.S. only.

I've used my PRS-700 in Ireland and Israel with no problems. Downloading books work fine using a US credit card in the file.

I'm happily using a Sony 650 in Australia. I can't download from the main Sony store, but there are several others I can use.

Regards, Alex

Thank you all for the help. It looks like we can keep the Sonys on our short list. We are going shopping today and so we will get a first hand look at the models and see which we like best.

Encapuchado~ Yep, we definitely plan on setting up a VPN..... nice to know that it should work like we are hoping it will!

That sounds like an exciting move, Country Girl! I have also purchased ebooks with the Sony software while traveling from multiple countries (and on multiple continents) but never China. I also use a VPN connection. Good luck on your ereader search.
