Angry where are the actual kobo files stored?

Summary - own a kindle 3, got an indigo gift card, signed up for kobo, downloaded a book - there it is in my pretty virtual library - but i need access to the actual file to file transfer to my kindle. I realize there might be compatibility issues - i'll deal with that when i can FIND THE ACTUAL FILE!! anyone shed some light? using Windows 7 btw.
thanks.

When you say "downloaded the book" do you mean onto your computer into Adobe Digital Editions?

If so, probably My Documents/My Digital Editions

you will need to remove the DRM and then convert to Mobi format to read it on Kindle.

If you used used the Kobo desktop application to obtain the book, it has been downloaded in Kobo's proprietary format (often called kePub) and can not be used by any other application.

Head back to their web site, and go to "My Library". There you should see the book you bought and the option to download the EPub version; when you click it it will download an ACSM file that in turn you have to open via ADE.

Then all that is left is to remove DRM and convert to Mobil!

Hmm I think you got about 10-20 mins of work to get it into a MOBI file.....We can't help you directly on this forum with stripping the DRM but you will need to download at least 3 programs if you don't have any of them.

On my windows 7 PC, they are here:C:\Users\tamingi\AppData\Local\Kobo\Kobo Desktop Edition\kepub

BTW, that file reflects changes to the desktop application. If I remove a book from I'm Reading and it disappears from the desktop application, it leaves that file as well. Since I want all the kepubs I have ever purchased backed up, I use a sync program (Allway Sync) that I have set to pickup on changes to that file. It then does a one way sync--only adding new books to my destination file, not removing them. That way I have all the books I have ever downloaded from Kobo as kepub files backed up all the time.

Another BTW: Until the 1.9 update to the Kobo WiFi, I absolutely hated using kepub formats. I have changed my mind. The update has eliminated that whole extra pages thing between chapter changes and the distance between lines (leading) is much better. Because of the ability to sync with other mobile devices and the dictionary support (flawed as it is), kepub is now my preferred format. That being said, I still download all my books in Adobe DRM format and have magically stripped the DRM and archived them for backup in my Calibre library.
