One Book Two Kindles

I bought my wife a Kindle for her birthday. Can we read the same book simultaneously on two separate kindles? (I already have one)

If you share an account, then yes you can.

Yup. I would recommend setting a book mark when you finish reading for the night/day. If you have the WiFi/3G on you will be asked to synch to the farthest page. If you hit this accidently you will have to go back and find where you were in the book. The book mark is a nice safety mechanism.

My Mom did this pretty regularly for a while.

As stated previously, if you are on the same account you can but you should turn off syncing (via the Manage Your Kindle page). That way, each of you can read at your own pace and have your own bookmarks.

I know some families where they have multiple accounts. One for the Family (kids included) and one for each of the adults. The family bounces the various Kindles around the different accounts. The kids are deregistered as soon as books are downloaded, this stops the use of the internet and possible downlaoding of books. The adults swap because one adult has work stuff in his/her account that the other doesn't need.

It seems to work fine.

I assume you mean one Amazon account, I am the only one that orders from Amazon.

I can still get books wirelessly, just don't sync, right.

Why would I want to sync? You mean between my Kindle for PC and my real Kindle? ...and assuming I don't want to share bookmarks or underlining?

Yes. You can freely share books between your devices if they're all on the same account. It is supported by Amazon and you can all be concurrently reading the same book.

If you plan to read the same book on more than one device at a time, you should keep synchronization on.

Example: If you were reading a book on your 2nd Generation Kindle, then later open the same book on your 3rd Generation Kindle, you could keep reading right where you left off.

With synchronization on, a book will open at the last page read, even on another device. It will also keep track of any bookmarks, highlights, or notes that you add so you can see them on another Kindle.
You can toggle the syncing through "Manage synchronisation between devices" on the "Manage Your Kindle" page on Amazon.

It only affects the synchronisation of last page read, bookmarks, highlights and notes. The wireless download of items and web access aren't affected at all. By default, Amazon has it set so you can pick up any Kindle device on the same account and continue reading from where you left off. You'll want that turned off otherwise you will interfere with each other.

Amazon really needs to allow users to specify specific devices they want to sync. Would it really be that hard?

My GF and I both have Kindles and often read the same book at the same time. Myself, I also have an Android phone that I would like to read on and have it sync my farthest point read from my Kindle and visa-versa. However, I cant because it will mess up my GF's reading of the same book.

Bummer....... (
