Late Release of E-Books???
Hi
I just recently purchased a Kobo for my wife as a Christmas present. I hesitated because I noted the last two hard cover books we bought, Fall of Giants and Empire of Silver, are not available (to my knowledge) as e-books. This raises the question, "Are e-books always late being released?" Are Ebooks analogous to DVD sales rentals in the movie release/pay per view/DVD release order for movies? For books, is it: Hard Cover, Trade Paperback, Paperback, E-Book? How long after the HC release of a book do you normally have to wait for the e-version? Maybe I should have asked this question before buying the reader. Keith |

Fall of Giants was released as an ebook in the US the same time that the hardcover came out. I got it as an ePub from the Philly library a few weeks back.

Fall of Giants is available at Kobobooks for $19.99 (sadly, not eligible for any discounts though)
Empire of Silver appears to be available as an audiobook, though not an e-book, at this time. |

Welcome to MobileRead Keith
Where do you live? I expect you are hitting some geographic restrictions. Fall of Giants is available. $19.99 US/$9.99 Canada - I'm not sure of European prices. I know it is available on Kobo though. You other book is available on Amazon for Asia. Anyway to answer your question, most books release eBooks now at the same date as the hardcover in North America. Other territories have their own schedules but still for the top sellers, there is usually an Ebook. |

Sorry, I'm new to this
I've found Fall of Giants on Kobobooks. Don't know why I couldn't before. But Empire of Silver still doesn't show up in a search there. As she/we haven't even used the Kobo yet (still wrapped), I don't know enough about the process of downloading books to be able to find them elsewhere, convert file types, etc. I'm sure I'll learn the art soon enough after the holidays
![]() Anyway, my question as to whether ebooks are held back for a while seems to have been answered, I think ![]() Thanks to those who responded. Keith |

In my experience, most new releases are available at the same time in paper and ebook, a few are available later as an ebook, and some have no ebook. In the US, the latter are now typically from small publishers and in my opinion the authors involved need to get new publishers. Backlist titles are much more likely to have no ebook version than new releases.

Krow,
Just a reminder that Kobos support public library e-book downloads, if you have access to that service. Between Kobobooks, and inkmesh.com, you should be able to locate most available versions of e-books for your device. John |
