Not Authorized to preview a book
My library when I click on a book I already had tells me that it can not read it because it says my computer is not authorized to read the file.
I had gotten them for the Nook for my PC and only a few of them work with the Sony reader library and will down load. Why is that and please help. I leave for deployment soon and would like to be able to read with out my computer. the files are in the epub format, and according to the users guide it should be able to read it. I do not understand why it is not letting me, nor will they download to my ereader Last edited by TanaChan; 01-05-2011 at 06:51 PM. |

Alright...it reads my pdf files just fine, I have found a way to get the books onto my device with out the reader library, however it will not open the book. It tells me it is a protected page. This is starting to upset me deeply and I wish someone could help with my problem.

If it says not authorised then it has DRM protection and, to use it, your computer and eReaders need to be registered/authorised... I think that Nook DRM content may use different version of ADE to anyone else and is not compatible with having DRM stripped...
Sorry can't be more helpful, it's around 1.00am here and I'm on the way to bed... someone else in the US should be more awake and helpful... |

Hi, Tana. You say that you got your EPUB files for "Nook for My PC". Does that mean that you purchased these books from Barnes & Noble? Unfortunately, B&N uses a special-DRM encryption on their EPUB files that doesn't work with the Sony ereaders. Some of the B&N free ebooks (and also samples) do not have this encryption which is possibly why you say a few of them do work.
I can understand your frustration. Most likely your ereader is fine. Do you have the Sony Reader Library installed? You can use it to setup an account, register your ereader and access the Sony Reader Store. They have a category called "Bargain-Priced" that has free ebooks. You could purchase a few of these $0 books as a test-case just to make sure your ereader is fine. You probably just need to buy books from compatible sources, like the Sony Reader Store, Kobobooks, Borders, booksonboard. You can also download public domain classics from places such as here on MobileRead, feedbooks.com, gutenberg.org. There is a stickey thread on this forum that is all about where to buy books. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11052 Hope that helps and Welcome to MobileRead! |

Thanks for the help, this is a little upsetting that I can't read my personal books with out my computer for the next 6 months *sigh*
Thanks though guys I have the reader installed, I thought it wouldn't be a problem that I had gotten them from barnes and noble because it is the proper file that can be used with the reader. But I suppose I'll deal, it reads the books for my job, the PDF files, just fine, so I can keep it for that atleast. Last edited by TanaChan; 01-05-2011 at 08:12 PM. |

Here is a link that tells you how to get started with the Sony Reader software and store.
http://ebookstore.sony.com/howitworks/ If you want to purchase books from other places besides Sony (just not B&N), then you need to download Adobe Digital Editions and authorize your ereader. Here is one bookstore that works with Sony and an explanation on how to setup ADE. Just a friendly tip: make sure you make your Adobe Account email the same as your Sony Reader Store Account email. http://www.booksonboard.com/index.php?F=helpSony |
