Talking My Kindle is Here! ^____^

*Cues the insanity* MWAHAHAHAHA! Its here! My new Kindle 3 is here!

E-Ink really DOES look just like paper. o_o I thought the initial screen was a paper slip and I wasn't sure why it couldn't be removed, until I plugged it in to charge it according to the on screen instructions and the darn thing FLASHED...LOL!

I've been insanely converting my entire PDF ebook collection in calibre and sending it to thy kindle email, and everything works beautifully.

Question; how do I delete books from the device? I know Amazon only archives the books I buy on Amazon so I'm not worrying about backups, I've got calibre to manage everything, but since I'm emailing my books to the kindle instead of just straight moving them over, I wonder how do I get them off if I need to make a change?

For example, I often make PDFs of fanfiction I'm reading and every once and awhile I want to -re-download the updated stories when new chapters are added, but having a dozen copies of the same story would get tedious. And if I just send the new chapters that turns into a lot of new files. o_o Any help? Maybe I could store fanfics in chunks, since I can't navigate to chapter sections or anything in these.

To delete from the Kindle, from the "home" page, left click on the title, (making sure its underlined) and choose "delete"

You'll be asked if you are sure.

Here is a great info page......

delete: press the square button right side thingy. Scroll down and choose delete. Click the OK and WAIT for the screen to change back to the listing.
If you press back or home it will cancel the deletion (happend a few times now ).

You will be much happier if you stop using PDF altogether, either as an intermediate format to convert to or to read on the Kindle. If something is on the web, save it as HTML and convert to mobi using Calibre or Mobipocket Converter, or copy/paste into an RTF document and do the same.

PDF is not a "proper" ebook format and you are more likely to end up with formatting errors if you convert from PDF. You can read PDF files directly on the Kindle, but they are often harder to read and take up more space.

Or just poke your favorite fanfic authors to post at archiveofourown.org, where you can download a .mobi version of any story and don't have to convert at all.

whitearrow is right, it's so much better not to use a PDF. There are soooo many ways to grab fanfiction more easily.

For example, have you tried Instapaper? You drag a bookmarklet entitled "read later" to your bookmark toolbar, then any time you land on a page of a story you want to read, it grabs it and saves the text. You can then download it via Calibre (through the News button) or click on the "kindle" icon on the "Unread Articles" page and it'll download to your computer. (From there you can drag it directly to your k3, or load it into calibre via the "Add Books" button.)

There are a few other really great fanfiction grabbers, though they usually only work with a couple of archives. Check each one to see if they work with the archives you favor. Also they mostly download epub only, but you can easily convert to mobi since you have calibre. Here are a few choices:

http://www.home-eisele.de/downloader_e.php Fanfiction Downloader
http://www.serdel.co.nr/ Graffer
http://fanfictionloader.appspot.com/ This one's also called Fanfiction Downloader.
http://www.halcyon-shift.net/gift-shop/squeebook/ Squeebook

Good luck & enjoy!

Instapaper didn't work the way I wanted it to, maybe because I was on Chrome, or maybe because it required me to have 20 articles before I could sync, I could not get an article to transfer and ended up just reading it online. I'll have to try it again, I suppose. I have Fanfiction Downloader now, it works a treat. Thanks!
