ADE can't find Libre

I am downloading my first library book for my Libre. I followed the instructions first from: (I could not follow the "no clock" scenario so I thought I would try the safe way.)

clicked on how to download ebooks

To copy/transfer the eBook into your Libre eBook Reader PRO:
1)
Power on your Libre eBook Reader PRO
2)
Connect the included USB to the Libre eBook Reader PRO and your computer
3)
You will see the Device Setup Assistant message on your computer. Please click “Authorize Device” to activate the device. (Please Note: You will only need to do this the first time you use your Libre eBook Reader PRO with Adobe Digital Edition software)
4)
Please click “Finished” once the authorization process is complete
5)
You will see “Libre eBook Reader PRO” on the left column under Bookshelves. To copy your new eBook to the Libre, drag and drop the icon of the new eBook on the right to the device name “Libre eBook Reader PRO” on the left.

I don't see "Libre ebook" on the left. On Cmas Day, my brother helped me set up me Libre. We practiced on a free book and a purchased book. The purchased book was from google.books. I did see the "Libre ebook" on the left. I brought my laptop home because it will be the main computer that will connect to my Libre. My brother knows nothing about the ereader and won't help me anymore. Actually the free books were EPUB already so it was just dragged and dropped to the Libre.

I turned on/off the ADE & Libre combo but ADE still does not see the Libre. Downloading to my Sansa Fuze for audiobooks was sooo much easier!! I am so frustrated!!

It's been a while since I've connected my Libre to ADE but I think I had the same problem at one time and that I had to press the power button on the Libre to get it to register. Good luck and hope something works. I'm starting to prefer the Libre to the nook.

Your description of the process doesn't mention having your ADE up and running on your
PC prior to connecting your device via the USB cable. ADE needs to be on while your PC
recognizes your device.

It sounds like you are using the same laptop that your brother and you were using,
correct? And you say that it has a "Libre ebook" section of the ADE "Library", correct?
You will see that whenever ADE has recognized that your device is connected to your
PC. It should do so once it has "Authorized" your device and made the "Libre ebook"
section in its "Library". The authorizing will only be done the one time, from then on
the ADE program on your PC will recognize your device if it is on and plugged into your
PC when ADE is already running. You can tell ADE has recognized your device by there
being the device's entry in ADE's "Library".

While ADE is running and your device is on and connected to your PC and there is an
entry for your device showing in ADE's "Library" - you can just use the downarrow next
to the "LIBRARY" tab and select "Add Item to Library", with the "All Items" bookshelves
highlighted. Then you can find and add your new book to the listing or thumbnails on the
right side, if it isn't already there.

Once the book you want to add to your device is showing on the right side, you can
drag&drop it onto the "Libre ebooks" (or whatever your device entry is called). ADE will
then place a readable copy onto your device in it's "Adobe Digital" folder, as well as into
the "Libre ebooks" bookshelves listing.

Now if you disconnect your Libre from your PC and look in the "Digital Editions" folder you
should see your new book listed. You can move the book, once it has been written to
the Digital Editions folder, over to your SD card, if you want. [This is best done using
your PC's file handling tools/windows explorer, while your device is still connected to
your PC.]

After 20 minutes on hold with Adobe, they told me that ADE is free. I should just use the online FAQ to get my answer. I thought I needed to reset my ADE. However, Adobe says that I downloaded correctly and it was Aluratek's problem. I needed to contact them directly.

I tried many times all afternoon to contact Aluratek. I had "System full. Please call back later." several times. I finally got through at the end of the afternoon. My wait time said 11 minutes, 6 minutes & 1 minute several times. I waited 38 minutes for Aluratek to tell me "O, just get a paperclip and reset your Libre. Then reconnect to ADE." I saw the "Authorized" which my brother told me he did "authorize" my Libre. So I reauthorized. Everything is fine now.

We talked about the color Libre for a little bit. He could not really talk about DRMs but he said that as long as I save books on to an SD card and NEVER have the SD card exposed to ADE, all books are safe. I asked him about the internal clock for the color and he could only repeat that SD cards should not be exposed to ADE.

If I have my SD card on my SD reader connected to my laptop and I open an epub file that launches ADE, then would that mean I exposed it to ADE? Will that borrowed Library book go away after the expiration date?

I believe this is true, that the sd card would be exposed to ADE. I lost the license to 2 books by having the sd card in the Libre when I connected it to ADE. Luckily I'd already read the books. I need to re-read the directions on keeping library books open. I thought as long as they were on the sd card they were safe. Not so.

It is my understanding that the expired ebook, while no longer readable using ADE on your PC, it will still be readable off your SD card on your Libre.

That was my understanding too, that I could connect the reader to ADE with the SD card installed and expired Overdrive books on the SD card would not be affected. I've got a couple more books on the SD card and once I've ready them I'll try ths again. Won't be anytime soon, though, as I'm 'Under the Dome' at present.

But you shouldn't need to have the SD card connected to your PC, while
you have ADE running. It is easy enough to remove it and easy to insert
in either your ebook reading device or a SD card reader/writing USB plugin
device. In fact it is better to use a USB 2.0 device with your PC instead of
the much slower USB 1.1 interface of a jetbook or Libre. They can be had
for under $5.

That's true, I should have removed the SD card from the LIbre. But I'd understood the directions to say that ADE would not affect the books on the SD card so I just left the card in place. Now I know better.

They, the expired books on your SD card will show as expired and not be readable in ADE,
but should remain readable from the SD card using your Libre. So you can still say that
ADE did not effect the books on the SD card, as far as reading them on the Libre.
But, as I said you need not expose your SD card to ADE, in any case.

As it is, in my case I don't borrow ebooks and do not expose my JBL to ADE. I only use
ADE to facilitate the download of some ebook purchases. Once the actual .epub is
downloaded, I disinfect it. If I were to be borrowing ebooks, I would make ADE think one
of my SD cards were a JBL running the 0.16e firmware, and still never let it near my real
JBL.
