2 metadata questions
1. when calibre downloads metadata for books, the whole app waits for it to finish and blocks any other user actions. can this be performed in the background? (maybe freeze the books involved so that no concurrent writing is done on the records - I assume that is why the import dialog is modal)
2. the social metadata tags are numerous; could it be possible that the user (me ![]() e.g. I have a few tags, by genre : mystery, fiction, romance. When I add a new book, I don't really need to have all the tags - "mystery, police, detective, kitchen, murder, grandmother...... etc", but just add the ones that are relevant to me. thank you |

ad 1.) No, you can't change that.
ad 2.) The metadata download plugins can be told what metadata to download (see preferences->plugins and customize the plugin(s) in question). Additionally, you can select not to download social metadata in the metadata download dialog. |

can I make 1 a feature request then? or is it unfeasible?
as per 2 - I WANT to download the tags and metadata ( a lot of times I know nothing about the book) but I want to get a subset of the downloaded tags, the intersection between my already-defined tags and the internet ones. So I guess it is another feature request then ![]() |

Sure, you can make however many feature requests you like. However, I don't expect this one to be implemented any time soon. If I remember correctly, more fine-grained control over metadata download is somewhere on the agenda, so we'll get it When It's Done.
