Lightbulb Calibre Portable on PRS-T1

Hello all,

This is my first post here, though i'm a longtime e-reader enthousiast . I was wondering the following:

Is it possible to install Calibre Portable on my PRS-T1 so i can have Calibre around when i need it and i have the complete library on the reader itself? Will i run into problems with this setup, or are there any disadvantages i might have missed?

Greetings,

Geert

Here's the Calibre portable section of the Calibre user manual.

It's something you can install on a USB stick so you can carry around the Calibre program/book library and use on any PC. It's not something you can install on your T1 or any other ereader.

Hope that helps

There are lots of ways you can keep a good backup copy of your calibre library.
1. Install calbre portable on a USB drive
2. Copy the library on a microSD card
3. Copy your library to Dropbox or other online account

I don't see a point trying to install duplicate library on the Sony.

I know i can't install in on the PRS-T1 as an app that i can open on the reader itself. But i thought it would be nice to have the library tool on the reader itself so every time i add a book to the reader it doesnt matter on what computer i am i can always update the metadata etc. But i found out the library keeps 2 files of the .epub the original and the edited. So that will provide a problem. It is possible to run Calibre from the PRS-T1 though

If you meant using the PRS-T1 as a USB mass storage device and running Calibre from the PRS-T1 when it's connected to a computer, sure that'll work. You can turn off the behavior to keep original copies of converted files in Calibre (Preferences » Tweaks).

Even if you did keep the original copies, though, it's not really an issue. The original epub files get renamed to Title - Author.original_epub so they don't get indexed by the reader software on the T1. One caveat, though, you'll probably lose the ability to create collections from within Calibre as the "Send to Device" function will probably get screwed up.
