Stay away from San Disk. They work hard to weasel out of honoring their warranties.

My jetBook and jetBook Lite work fine with Transcend 8GB SDHC cards. I usually buy it on NewEgg website.

ADDED: There are good deals on a lot of different memory cards in the Black Friday ads. I've purchased my memory cards either from Staples on sale (4gb SD card a few weeks ago for $10), or from Amazon. Last edited by Catlady; 11-16-2010 at 02:11 PM. Reason: added info |

Another problem with San Disk is they have dropped the Ultra II line. The so called limited lifetime warranty on the Ultra II is actually 10 years (I consider this deceptive advertising, btw). The Ultras' so called limited lifetime warranty is only five years. I got burned by one vendor when I ordered a 32GB Ultra II and received an Ultra. I've since found that many vendors were still advertising the Ultra IIs but, when their existing stocks ran out, started substituting them with Ultras without reducing the price. Buying some of the cards is now a crap shoot. Granted, it's not exactly San Disk's fault for the substitutions but it wouldn't have happened if they hadn't cut their warranties. My advice stands. Stay the heck away from San Disk. Last edited by Lady Fitzgerald; 11-16-2010 at 09:49 PM. |

Right now, I using San Disks I already had. As long as they work, I'm not going to toss them. In the future I'll probably go with Transcend or Kingston but definitely I'm not going to get San Disks. No matter how good they may be otherwise, I will not support weasels by purchasing their products.

I use a Radio Shack brand of SD Card for my Aluratek Libra Pro, get them at radioshack.com or any neighborhood radioshack. I have also used San Disk and Kingston in my Libra Pro and all of them work great.

**The following is totally a matter of observation and opinion***
It seems to me that the SD market has evolved so that there is a common (without regard to brand name) product that falls into a "sweet spot" with regard to capasity, write speed, and price. I noticed it first with the 2GB SD cards, then the 4GBs and now 8GB class 6 cards are being offered at good prices. Luck; Ken |

I agree with Ken, first the 2gb cards, then the 4's became incredibly reasonable buys. Now as more cards are moving into the mini and micro with adapter even the larger SD cards are becoming a very good buy.
My wife bought me a 16 gig card 6 months ago for about 1$ per gig. Couple that with a 3$ SD to USB adapter and you have incredible flexibility. You can use it on a jetbook, a camera, or for moving large files quickly between computers. Its just plain handy. |

Ritek are slow and have very short warranties. Kingston are reliable but seem slower now that they are not Made in Japan. Transcend seem pretty good and have very good feedback. Mine are pretty fast. Keep in mind, the speed will not be an issue in the reader itself as it is a pathetic 1.1 USB (who knew they were still made even as USB 3 is now more common), however, if you take out the card and add books in the computer, the increased speed is slightly better. Not really worth much unless you move a large bulk of titles a lot.

I used a Verbatim 2GB card, and it's worked flawlessly. I then "upgraded" to a Sandisk 4GB card. Doesn't work too well. Almost all the time, I have to insert and re-insert the card (sometimes up to 20 times!) before jetbook would finally recognise and read it.
Either I have bought a bad card, or my Jetbook doesn't like Sandisk cards much. I'm inclined to think the latter, because the same Sandisk card hasn't got a problem with my iRiver Story. |
