Would you want a 7" kindle?

Sony has a 7" version, so e-ink does produce a 7" display. Sony being Sony, it's too expensive of course. I think I'd like to see a kindle 7". I would pay $50 more for it, provided it can still fit in my jacket pocket.

Nope. I like my DXG but if I were to go back to something smaller, I would want the 6 inch version. It is comfortable and fits into a purse easily.

No! I couldn't afford to buy the cover for it.

Since you say you still want it to fit in your jacket pocket, I assume you mean a 7" screen as opposed to an all around larger Kindle? They could probably do this by sacrificing the keyboard but I would think they would need to use heavier (??), sturdier plastic in order to support and give more "flex protection" to the larger screen.

Not having used an eReader with a larger screen, I am quite comfortable with the current Kindle 3 form-factor. Who knows though. For example, since I really like my 17" MacBook Pro notebook screen, I find the screen real estate on a netbook much too small so I guess it all depends upon what you are used to!

The Sony 950 is only slightly larger than K3 (7.87 x 5.04 x 0.38 vs 7.5 x 4.8 x 0.335). The screen is the same width, just taller (3:5 aspect instead of 3:4). So it is by no means unwieldy. It looks like a great ereader, I would love to have one to play around with (if it was free that is...).

That said, I don't think 3:5 is a great aspect ratio for reading, much less PDF viewing (because most PDFs are 3:4 or thereabouts). If you could have a slightly larger 3:4 screen (say 660x880) I think it would be more usable without bloating the form factor: better text layout with larger fonts, slightly better PDF full screen viewing etc.

I used to have an 8 inch ereaderscreen, but I find 6 inch surprisingly handy.

But stretching a K3 vertically by 1 inch would make it too tall! Don't forget that the Kindles have a keyboard and the Sonys don't. I owned a 900 for a while, and frankly it was not worth the extra money over a 6 inch screen. I thought it would be better for PDFs, but alas PDFs on ANY eInk screened reader, including the KDXG, suck. The K3 actually does a better job with PDFs than the KDXG or the Sony readers, but none are acceptable for viewing PDFs IMO. They might work for you, but they don't work for me. But then neither is a PC, MAC, or iPAD. PDFs just won't work well for me on any device.

Sure if they would sell it to me at my price $100. Kindle is a better product then my Libra Pro, but costs more, you get what you pay for.

I am happy with my K2.

If I wanted a bigger screen (which would be nice for pdfs), and the price was right, I'd go to a DXG rather than a 7 inch screen.

But maybe other people feel differently.

No, I don't think so. I can just slip it my my pocket if I go to answer the door, stir the pasta, or whatever. It's very handy the size it is.

The size of a K3 is about right, I think. I wouldn't mind a taller screen if they dumped the keyboard (which I have only ever used for creating collections in the 2 1/2 months I've owned it).

But actually, I'd rather they just dumped the keyboard and made it smaller, keeping the screen the same.

Yes, if it goes to 1024x600. Keep the device the same physical size, loose the qwerty keyboard, keep the 5-way and a few other buttons on the bottom. The 7" screen then takes up more of the surface (in one dimension) of the device without increasing the size of the device.

I agree - although I prefer 5" (LCD) for portability (smaller purse) and the DXG 9.7" for reading ease at home. It's an excellent combination.

But the 7" is neither "fish nor fowl" - not quite portable and 7" is not a great reading experience (for PDFs). When I travel with only my 7" netbook I sometimes use it for reading and it is OK for reflow-formatted text/html, but I don't use it when I have a choice at hand.

Only if the screen aspect ratio was the same and the resolution much higher.
