Transferring books to a new reader
Hello, all. This is my first post so forgive me if it might be in the wrong place! If it is, I'm sure a mod will re-position it.
Intro: Kindle have issues with their keyboard (Kindle 3G) as some of you may know (characters wearing off the key pads). Amazon are very willing to swap out a faulty machine and will give you thirty days to transfer your books before you return the old reader to them post paid. I've elected to hold on for a while to make sure that any replacement doesn't behave the same. Question: When I eventually get my new reader, as inevitably I will, is it just a simple case of connecting my new reader to calibre and reloading the books on within this program? That would save an awful lot of hassle given the number I have. Mostly they are downloads in a miscellany of formats from all sorts of sources; only a few are from Amazon and therefore archiveable. Thanks for the advice/confirmation. Roger |

There should be no issues with books that do not have DRM applied to them.
Any that are DRM protected may be more of an issue as they are probably tied to the hardware Id of your current Kindle. |

If the new kindle is attached to the same amazon account as the old one, then DRM-infested books should also be readable.
Out of curiosity, when you send the old kindle back, does amazon remove it from the account, thus freeing the slot for another device? |

DRMed books will most likely have to be re-downloaded from Amazon, non DRM books will transfer just fine.

Thanks for your help, all. I'll let you know how easy (or not) it goes when I make the exchange.
