Borders or Barnes and Noble ebooks on Sony?

I'm sure this topic has come up before. I'm new to Sony. Can I buy and download ebooks from Borders or B&N? Do I have to use Calibre?

You can download the ebooks from the purveyor directly to your hard drive if Adobe Digital Editions is not required.

You can purchase ebooks from Borders but not from Barnes & Noble.

In order to open the books on your computer, you will need either Adobe Digital Editions or the Sony software authorized to your ADE account. Once the books are downloaded just drag and drop to put on your device.

Also, you can't buy books from the Apple store. They and B&N chose to go with a slightly different encryption method. All of the other stores selling ePub format will work on the Sonys. Visit www.inkmesh.com and www.feedbooks.com to comparison shop for titles or authors. They search several different bookstores, so you can compare prices. Just be aware that Sony only lets you purchase using the clunky Sony software.
