I've long used Calibre with my Sony 505. I always did collections manually. I had to move my Calibre library to a new laptop, and I thought that would be a good opportunity to use the built-in collections tool. I have collections I like, not something that can be computed from standard metadata. No problem, Calibre supports custom metadata. I made a new custom metadata tag called "Collections" (or "collections" where it has to be all lower case. I populate this metadata tag with the settings I like, and then I go to the Sony device plugin and tell it that the formula for collections is "collections" (or "Collections" I've tried them both. Not wanting to mess us the reader state just yet, I set "Only on Send". I send a book over, and it's collection is set to "blank". What step did I leave out? The instructions seemed pretty clear, right up until it didn't work. |

You must put '#collections' in device customization, not 'collections'. In general, when trying to get to the value of a custom field, you must use its sort name, which is the name you see when you hover the mouse on the column header. |
