Question Cable compatibility?

I think I warned you last post in this forum that wouldn't be the dumbest question I'd ever ask, and I think I'm about to prove it.

I have an iPod Touch 3gen en route, and currently own a Nano (probably 4gen, based on images on Apple's site). Question: are charge/sync cables compatible between the two? I'm afraid it would be just my luck to mismatch them and damage a device (and Murphy's Law being what it is, it would be the Touch).

When I moved from an iPod to an Itouch, some of my cables worked, some didn't. No harm was done, and in most cases, I got an alert from my iTouch that the cable wouldn't work.

cheers

The Nano is actually 2nd generation. I am apparently not very bright today.

As long as hardware damage isn't likely, I'll try to quit worrying.

Cables should work fine.
