Firmware Update Answer if there will be an update for the Kindle DX

Hello,

i've asked the amazon support team if there will be an update for the kindle dx to get the equal pdf functionality as it has the kindle 3.

The thing just came out, so it's likely that they will update the firmware, but it will take time. They are more concerned with the K3.

Besides once apps come out from K3K tons of crap will be available.
Hackers will also offer other solutions.

I recently--first week of August--bought a KindleDX and it has the dictionary, TTS, and highlight function.

I have bought my kindle 18 october 2010. Do realy have dictionary nad highlight function for PDFS? What firmware version?

Yeah it's always had a dictionary tts and highlight function.. you can use the dictionary inside of pdfs.. it takes you out of them thought (search the dictionary) by pressing right on the joystick.

You can't highlight or search though the PDF as you would with a MOBI document with the joystick, and you can't use TTS.

Pretty sure there is no firmware update either.

I asked the same question a couple days ago and got the following answer:

"We've made no announcement about a new firmware release for Kindle DX Graphite, so I can't answer your question. I'd suggest checking our website from time to time to see if a new firmware released for your Kindle DX Graphite."

The thread title is extremely misleading as it is obvious you don't have an answer to your question. All you guys got was CS speak for, "I'm a total idiot who is completely scripted and have no clue about anything that is not written in the pages of my CS manual." You are wasting your time to call CS with such questions as they probably won't know the answer for several days after it becomes a reality, by which time you will have already figured it out yourselves.

Amazon CS is pretty unhelpful.

When I first got my Kindle It was lasting like 8 hours with 3g off because of Index error, they told me it should last 3 weeks (yarite more like 60 hours of on time at best), and that I should give it time charging a few days because it was still a new kindle...

Right. I had to read forums to figure out what was going on. Annoying.

I think Amazon will definitely have kindle dxg updated. But that might not be the top priority to do. They announced to release KDK and also some app store staff for a long time. That might be the top of the agenda for them right now.

Kindle 3 sells more and makes more revenue and has more share on market. DX is like ipad. updates are always later than iphone. We might need keep patient or do some dirty staff...(like email amazon constantly. Haha.: )

the Baby-Kindle, K3, is still ill. So i guess Amazon first want to cure the Baby-Kindle by updates of firmware that it dont crash or freeze anymore.
the KDXG is totally healthy and has no problems at all.

so im pretty sure there will be an update for KDXG after they could handle the problems with K3.

it's good when you ask amazon for it. so they can see the demand. i also combined my question with an improvement-proposal to improve the chance that an engineer will read it and not only the support.

I still kind of want a column feature for my dx, I have to slow down a little when I'm reading certain content on it and I'm tired / specially in landscape mode.. I can't pan fast enough, and there is wasted white space - stuff doesn't get chucked correctly. 2 - possibly even 3 columns would make this way better, rather than increasing text size or margins (which still won't fix white space) and just makes me have to turn pages every few seconds...
