PRS-T2 Flop

Hi readers,
Sony invested a lot of money in the ereaders sector, the sony reader store witnesses that, but I have to say that on the first page of this forum I can see only T1 posts, in the developer sony section,only one post on the T2 of a couple of pages, about the russians that probably will not root the device, and worst than everything, despite amazon launched two great products, today mobileread show in first page now is available a NEW firmware for the kindle 3.

I have always given trust to sony, I have always bought a lot of their product, especially after the nuclear problems in Japan, but now I am thinking to sell back my T2 to buy a kindle, or still more humiliating a T1!!!

I cannot save the web pages of the t2 browser, this is a REAL SERIOUS issue, and in internet nobody mention it. what they expect to use their update functionality to furnish a lot of new features to compete against amazon? What they expect to furnish a firmware to use android?
Of course there will be always somebody that will ask to downgrade the SW for the T1, but they will miss a whiter screen, also if I envy to t1 the audio functionalities to use android (that actually I do not know which genius decided to remove, considering that the t1 is less heavy), the positive point of T2 is that the big battery life could really make the possibility to put andoid in it, this is a a competitive strategy: there are not too much android devices you can read on the sun and forgetting you need to load batteries around is a nice added value.
Please Sony do something, it is not fair we gave you trust and you furnish us such a mediocre product.

i never got the chance to use the T1, but isn't that what evernote on the T2 is for? saving web for offline reading?

I don't understand why the incessant whining & begging for Sony to do something. This isn't a Sony forum. They probably don't read this and even if they did, they're not going to anything.

If you don't like the device bring it back. End of story. Many reader makers ditched audio. Good for them! It's smart. It's an unnecessary feature. It's a reader not an mp3 player. Get an iPod or similar for that. You want to browse online? Get a tablet. It's a reader not a multi-function tablet, laptop or desktop.

I love the matte black T2. Every time I visit my mother, it's all I can do not to take hers home with me. I don't care about audio or rooting. The Evernote function is fabulous. I know there are mixed opinions on whether the screen is improved, but the screens on the T2s I've seen are significantly better than my T1 -- whiter, sharper, they even seem to have less glare (though the latter may be a false impression given by the matte bezel rather than something to do with the screen itself). I'm buying a T2 as soon as the piggy bank is full. Just sayin'.

i'd invest in the T2 in a heart beat, had it the front light. - i wanted this even more than a hires screen.

Dear Shopaholic, and others readers,

I will explain you my point. First of all this is not an "official" Sony forum, but every corporation( especially in the high tech) adopts as best practise peering into their (and competitors) forums, actualy I spoke with different marketing managers that told me also that the best practice is to create a profile to interact with the others and influence the opinions.. The advantage of the forums from a corporate point of view....a lot, but we do not need to be a Damorodan to understand of course that customer service expenses represents a big slice of the cost of a company... and I could continue.So please that they do not read the ONLY authoritative forum on sony product looks really really unlikilely (do not want to debate just explain you because I think you are wrong), I would dare to say..not logical at all for a corporation to lose profitability to cut expenses, and also testing the market for free

Then I think I have the right to complain not only because I read the reviews and I am on top of the news regarding HI tech stuff, but also because the nature of a forum is to discuss about a product, when is good and when, this is the case imo, it is a mediocre product.

then you suggest to buya tablet, I would do if I had the possibility to read on the sun wihtout glares, as I am not soo stupid anymore to buy a tablet to use in evenings instead of going out with scanty girls, or to use it only on my WC in my house as on the house desk i have a nice workstation screen.

then most important a reader is not a reader, at least if Sony want to remain competitive, this is the reason why they put a browser, and amazon a light, a 3g and so on. Consumers want more and from my view, if Sony does not react offering added value services as the android updates, well will risk to see a terrible migration of people toward the LESS EXPENSIVE, WHITER, MORE REFURBISHED STORE, eventually 3G Kindle paperwhite. It is not a coincidence than on the kindle subforum on mobileread there is athread on a special offer on the new kindle that hitted 102 thousand views and 1200 replies, and the new kindle went in the market AFTER the T2....so I would repeat if Sony do not use frequent UPDATE, will lose the opportunity and the trust of the customers with the color T3

I do not want that as I love Sony Corporation, and I think I can express my judgement, especially after I did not receive for free.
Said that, I apologize if my tone looks a bit fundamentalistic, are not my intention, just need to point out what I think, so thank you indeed to give me the possibility to explain better to Sony my point.

Also I would like to add to reply to 300com, Yes there is a nice function that claims the T2 can download the pages to read offline and using the dictionaries, but not only does not work on my device, but also I cannot benchmark with others because few people are buying this device( I already pointed this issue 3 times on this forum)

sony would be stupid not to read this forum. a further point - kobo(who do seem to have various software problems) have got employees partaking and announcing developments in the kobo mobileread forum. there is no point in defending sony when they are blatantly not investing in ereaders. people will go elsewhere(i certainly will if sony continues this trend). Left are a small quasi religious following who will support whatever sony does.

I'm not defending Sony. Replace Sony with any other manufacturer of any product and the statement still stands. If you don't like it - return it. It's really very simple. If it doesn't do what you want it to do, find something that does & buy it instead. That's how you 'speak' to a company, through your wallet.

Coming to a forum and whining till the cows come home serves no purpose. It's not going to change the device in your hand is it?

I think the main reason few are buying the T2 is...

1) that it's not that great a step up from the T1, so an upgrade isn't really needed and...

2) Hardly anyone knows Sony's exist.

Used to be you'd see them in stores. Sometimes they'd be working, sometimes not. But you'd never really see any advertisements of them outside of the display. Now that they've been pulled from every store around here, you can't even see a working model. No one has them except the Sony store, which is a 30 miles drive to a crowded mall in a hard-to-get-to area, and you have to know they're there.

I can't remember the last time I've seen a Sony eReader advertisement, heard about it on on the radio, except for here and some Tech reviews. I'm trying to remember if there was even a T2 on the email advertisement I get from Sony in email the week it came out.

In short, around here, most people I talk to know what a Kindle is, even if they haven't seen or played with one. Everyone knows what an iPad is, even if they only vaguely know what a tablet is.

And as little as Sony does to advertise it, I really don't think they care anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if the next stop is to drop the reader entirely. I just feel like they're ready to bow out of the game, which is sad, because it's always been my favorite machine.

Or better yet, complain to the corporation...if you are able to that is. BUT I think it is fine to complain here. People do tend to express their opinions on boards such as this.

my feeling is that the reason people complain is out of frustation that a company the size of sony cant be bothered to innovate. i agree that of cause you can take it back if you dont like it. i would love sony to pull them selves together but i am finding myself drifting away. here in the uk you dont see the sony readers anywhere since waterstones stopped selling them?(they are now going to sell kindles which surely is a death rattle). even in my local supermarket(tesco) there are kindles on display. i love my t1 and would have bought a lighted t2 as this feature is crucial for me as i find i have to put on the light often. why should i carry round a heavy reader with a £40 lighted cover on it when i can get it build in for less that a £100(kobo glo) we are not getting kindle paperwhite overhere for at least 6 months so that is not an option.

You can't save web pages of any browser on any eink reader. So how is this a serious issue when nobody does it?

Why get frustrated ?

It is, unless they are a significant shareholder, in fact nothing whatsoever to do with them as to what Sony's own aspirations are, whether they be to continue in the eReader business or not, to innovate or not, to include a light or not, to have a shiny bezel or not, sell many or few, be a market leader or not, etc, etc.

People complaining on forums, because they get a sympathetic response from a few similar souls, tend to get lulled into thinking that a majority of users have the same likes and dislikes as their own. They also often assume they know what is best for the maunfacturer better than the manufactuer does themself, and that with no knowledge whatsoever of what the product manufacturer's market research is showing nor how that research result matches the manufacturer's own (not the complainers') aspirations.

Forums attract complaints not kudos, and the post count for a particular complaint is often inflated by a small number of posters repeating themselves. And the number posting in any way at all on forums (whether giving kudos to the product, complaining, or seeking help) is only a very small minority of the users of the product.

If you don't like the new Sony readers and Sony's direction then, as Shopaholic says, go buy something you do like from a manufacturer who you think is innovating in the direction you, yourself, would like to see. No reason to get frustrated--the market is there to ameliorate such frustrations.

For the sake of good order, I am not saying people should not complain (but perhaps they should not whine), nor not make suggestions. I am just setting out the perspective as I see it to be and why it seems to me to be inappropriate to get frustrated over one's assumed direction of one manufacturer who one thinks needs "to pull themselves together" when there are a number of others one can choose products from.

Well in the browser options there is the option save snapshot tested on one Page and does not work resolution not supported, then there is the option save a link, does not work, and the option send to evernote... Does not function
