Who uses what Mobile Reader??

I have just published a novel in kindle format, titled 'Demon Gates' on amazon.com, but am checking the other avenues of where to publish. My questions to this forus are:
What mobile reader do you use?
Where do you buy your eBooks from?
What is your $ limit when buying an eBook?

Regards,
Robert

It really doesn't matter what reader people use. The eBook market is effectively split into two: Amazon (which you've got covered) and ePub (which every other device supports). I would suggest, therefore, that you produce an ePub version of your book. It will be readable by pretty much everyone who doesn't have a Kindle.

Ditto on the e-pub format. Personally I hold the line at about $10.

So far, I've bought only one e-book (Smashwords). Any other book I wanted either isn't in e-book form or the e-books had DRM restrictions and I will not buy e-books with DRM.

I have a Kindle 3 on order. As long as a book is not DRM-restricted, most people can convert (using Calibre or other computer software) to their preferred format.

My purchase price limit depends on what type of book. I think $10 is about the limit for a simple novel of general interest. New novels by top drawer authors often command higher ePrices but I either pass on them or wait for a reasonable price.

DRM is the killer - if it has it I won't buy it. If it doesn't I might, and whilst I could buy it from Amazon and convert it I probably wouldn't just because there is so much stuff out there that I don't have to do that with - and if it's unknown to me it would have to be a lot less than $10. None of which really matters to you anyway, (I now realise, having checked your link!), because I don't read fantasy.

I have a kindle 3 and a Sony PRS-300, although I only use the K3 now. Since getting the K3 I've only bought from amazon, but before I bought ePUBs from sites like WH Smiths, The book depository, Kobo and books on board. I also bought a few books from fictionwise to read on my iPhone.

I wouldn't count on that, most people won't even know it is possible never mind how to do it.

Stick it on Smashwords as an epub and pdf, but don't be tempted to let them farm it out to other sites or Amazon might start to discount your price so they can do you out of royalties.

The most I ever paid for an ebook is $5.99, but that was only because the paper version was $125 + post from America and it was one of the writers already on my buy everything list. For a normal ebook I wouldn't pay more than $3.50. For someone I've never heard of before it would need to be free unless the subject matter really appealed to me, in which case a 25% free sample would probably swing it.

Ditto what most have said about ePub.

I just "One Clicked" your book at Amazon, when do you think the next one will be out? I think three bucks is a little on the low side, but if it gets folks interested in your series, it might be worth while to make a little less on the first one.

Good luck!

I just got a Kindle 3 a couple weeks ago, and am enjoying it. But I honestly think I'd enjoy any of the other ereaders, as well. As long as it works!

I love Baen's $6 price for drm free pubs. But I will be paying close to $15 for the latest Tom Clancy boom this December. I'd probably pay $20 for that or a Harry Potter new release.

I use mobipocket (not Kindle!) and PDF. I will cure my books of the DRM disease so I can convert it to what I want and need.

I'm willing to pay a little more for 'established' authors. That is, authors whose books I've read and liked. I will buy the next Robin Hobb book no matter how much it will cost me.

If I were to buy a book from an author I've never heard off ... I'd be willing to pay up to 3€ (about 4,2 dollars), but only if I think the story will be interesting and original (which is hard to find if you've read nothing but fantasy for the last 10 years).

Quote:

I would be very tempted as well

I haven't bought a book yet, for now I'm happy reading public domain books.

I generally only purchase ebooks from Smashwords (epubs) or sometimes the sony story (even though they have drm... I have a balance on a few gift cards!).

As far as price, I'm a library girl from way back who never really collected many books of her own. I'd check out 15 books every few days from the library instead. So I tend to be on the cheap side when it comes to books from authors with whom I am not yet familiar. I'll go up to $2 possibly on an independent authors who is new to me. I'd more likely to want to pay more if I have read one book and really enjoyed it. And I'm more likely to try the first book if it's free or $.99.

I think I'm a bit of an anomaly, actually, an avid reader who is not an avid book purchaser. So you can ignore my contribution
