Wading Through Kindle Store Public Domain Books
I just downloaded Something New by P.G. Wodehouse from Project Gutenberg. It has some formatting quirks.
I don't mind paying a buck or two for a properly formatted/proofread public domain book. I checked out Amazon and there are six Kindle versions of this book ranging from $3.99 to $0.99. Is there any chance that any of these will be any better? Any advice for someone looking for public domain books that look good on the Kindle? I know there are lots of places to download them. I'm looking for places other than mobileread where I'll have a better than average chance of getting a version that looks good on the Kindle. |

Have you also tried feedbooks.com and manybooks.net - these are the other sites I would recommend apart from mobileread.

Or are all these sites using the same text with the same problems? Or is it just a crap shoot and you have to try a bunch of them? |

Yes I understood your question and the sites I recommend are well known for being good ones usually with well formatted books
![]() I'm pretty sure we had a similar thread recently where people were comparing the best free sites. |

Try the books here first, they are formatted by hand and everyone I've read is beautiful.

Feedbooks seems to be the best place, but they have the worst selection, I think.
Here, sometimes you get a pretty good book, but sometimes the epub version is better formatted (or the mobi version is non-existant). There's one Wodehouse book from here that is epub only, Right Ho Jeeves). Manybooks has some issues with older titles not having chapters on the Kindle. Again, best just getting the epub and converting. But even the older ones still are good to read, just the lack of chapters bugs me. It's a shame that Amazon doesn't really care about this, nor about how people are getting ripped off by people selling poorly formatted PD books. But looking at B&N, I see the same thing. |

I only add the suggestion as it could be useful for books that are not in the public domain but are still available in multiple editions. |
